I took my daughter for her 6 month well visit last week. She has dry skin so the pediatrician recommended some things and gave me a prescription and sample of a cream. I called the pharmacy later that evening to see how much the cream would cost. They did some checking and came back with $88! Of course my insurance company was closed so I had to wait until the next day to call and find out how much they would cover.
I used the sample that evening and the dry patches looked so much better the next day. I called the insurance company as I was now very interested in this cream that had worked a miracle on my daughters skin. The women with the insurance company was very nice, but after lots of checking it was determined that they DID NOT cover this prescription because it was so new...I'm sorry, but I can't pay $88 for a tube of cream, call me crazy but there has to be something else out there that works just as well. I'm so thankful I called ahead of time, I'm not sure what I would have done if I went to pick it up and they told me the cost!
I would love to hear any recommendations you have!

I would let the pediatrician know the situation and see if something else could be prescribed. My son has a prescription ointment that works wonders. When we don't use that, we use Aveeno cream. Good luck!
Showing love back to you from FF! :)
Two of my 3 kiddos have eczema and we've tried a billion scripts and over the counter lotions...surprisingly enough I got this: http://www.gentlenaturals.com/products/eczema_cream.php
and it does wonders for him..go figure. You can get it at walmart. ;)
Have a great day!
Prescriptions are ridiculous! lol Try this company, Skin Free, http://skinfreeskincare.blogspot.com/ I did a review for them and a friend of mine used the soap on her little girl that has eczema, and it cleared her up:)
Story is so familiar to me. We had to get some ointment for my son when he was about that age (maybe a little older), and I about died when I went to pick up the prescription.
The ointment was around $60 w/ no insurance co-pay. I sucked it up and paid, though next time my wife and I informed the Dr. about the high cost. Wouldn't you know, she then gave us a sample of Aveeno to try, and it worked even better than the $60 cream!
I ended up paying some serious cash on something for Evan and it DIDN'T work!! I've since tried SEVERAL different kinds of lotions. I'm not fond of the smell....but the best thing that works on him is Burts Bees mommy butter. Its actually that stuff that I would put on my tummy while preggers(I'm telling you-I've tried everything with Evan).
Aveeno lotion works great on our little guys dry skin, so crazy how much that cream costs!!! ouch!
My daughter has very dry skin. I've tried Aveeno, Lubriderm, Eucerin (recommended by the doctor), Gold Bond Extreme dry skin, Nivea, Anything with Cocoa Butter...nothing has worked. Finally doctor suggested I use NO soap in the water when bathing her and also bathe her every 4 days. So far, her skin is better. I've been using just water and baby oil in the water.
I'd like to try that $88 cream, though. I wonder if MY insurance covers it. I'll ask the ped next time I go.
My son had this problem as a toddler. Finally tried shea butter from bath and body works. He either suddenly grew out of it or it worked, cause we only had two flareups after starting it! Good Luck.
I definitely know what you mean! I have had a skin problem on my legs for as long as I can remember and just barely had it checked out last summer. He prescribed something for me to try and said that *if it doesn't work* to call him. I went to get the prescription that the doctor ordered and it was $100! I said no thanks... and I still suffer from my legs. Hmm...
You can also try to use regular massage oil on the skin..Sweet Almond oil, avocado oil, jojoba, evening primrose are all suitable for dry skin..I add a little bit to the bath water.
dr.Bronner's un-scented soap makes the skin soft also since it is a castile soap. They also have organic body balms suitable for dry skin..

I would avoid perfumed soaps and detergents..
Hi there - my daughter had sensitive skin as a baby and our pediatrician recommended Cetaphil. It is cheap, about $7 for a large bottle if I remember right, and it worked like a charm. There is a gel you can use also to first wash her face but I never had to resort to that, the cream worked fine on its own.
Thanks for visiting my blog today and your nice comments!
For my son, we use Aveeno Baby Calming Comfort Lotion or Skin MD Natural Face, Hand, and Body Shielding Lotion. You can obviously get the Aveeno at your local stores. I would say that is costs at the most $8 for at least 8 oz or more. For the Skin MD, you need to order on line at htp://www.skinmdnatural.com/order-page.php It cost $18 for only 4 oz..but it really works and it much cheaper than $88. And a little goes a long way. We also give our son bath every couple of days and use no soap. Just water. Unless he is really stinky! Then we give him an oatmeal bath.
Good luck, I hope you find something that works!
Ever since my daughter was a baby (now 6), she has had dry skin patches. My doctor prescribed an otc lotion, Eucerin. It's about $12 for a bottle. It's a little greasy, but it really works. I hope this helps!
My 6 month old had the same problem and we tried every prescription cream out there! In the end we got rid of all fragranced products in the house and we use All Free and Clear detergent, Aveeno bath wash, and when he has a rash or dry skin we grease him down like a greased pig with Aquafor lotion. I mean really grease him up! SO far it has worked for him...
That IS absolutely ridiculous!
My youngest gets contact dermatitis and a mild form of eczema every winter. Her ped. suggested using Dove and one other brand for soap, however we don't have it around here and I can't remember it now. Aveeno baby lotion has worked wonders on her, so has the Burt's Bees Mama Butter and nearly any lotion with shea butter (best stuff I have ever used is at http://www.jordanessentials.com, it is a direct sales company, however I believe you can now order online, it's been a while, but the shea body butter is tremendous. And the lotion helps clear up cradle cap, and the lotion bars are great in defense of diaper rash, I have used it all for those and have had wonderful results). I also gave up using fabric softeners (saves money too) due to their fragrance and I have since switched to homemade laundry detergent. Haven't had a problem this past frigid winter.
Praying you find something that helps that won't take all the egg money:)
My daughter gets patches of dry skin and eczema and we really like the Aveeno lotion. Another thing I use when she gets a bad flare up is plain old vaseline. It protects the skin so it can heal itself and has worked for us. Also works for diaper rash.
I won a giveaway a few weeks ago from a company called Jurlique. The baby line products is what I won. I suffer from eczema and also have PCOS and get red bumps on my arms. My daughter also has really bad skin issues...shes 20 months. this is the first lotion that really works for both of us. I will never use anything else. Hope this helps.
