Time with family

I'm having a great time visiting with extended family but I am worn out.  My daughter is sleeping in the room with me and she is getting up early.  My sister's daughter is in another room and we hear her on the monitor throughout the night.  My son is sleeping with my parents and he's been having a rough time going to bed.  We have been so busy I haven't had any time to sit down and work on blog posts.  I did talk with hubby today and there are lots of fun items waiting for me at home.  You won't want to miss out on them!

Great Ways to Spend Time this Summer!

School is almost out and that means finding ways to entertain the kids for the summer. Taking the family to a water park, amusement park or other major attractions can add up quickly. Uniroyal’s e-book, “Family Fun for Less,” has some great tips on backyard activities that can be great way to spend time with the whole family, neighborhood and friend.

Here are some of our suggestions:

-Create your own water park by filling up a small pool in the backyard, putting out? the Slip ’N Slide® and turning on the sprinklers. Use squirt guns and other spray bottle as water guns. Try games like a water balloon toss, sponge tag or musical sprinkler (like musical chairs, have children dance around until the music stops and then the sprinkler starts and the kids get drenched).

-Create a backyard carnival by setting up stations for old-fashioned games such as a ring toss, a clothespin drop, backyard bowling or potato sack races. Face painting and estimation jars filled with candy (the closest guess without going over wins) also add to the fun. Look for inexpensive prizes at a dollar store. Don’t forget concession stands that “sell” carnival food like hot dogs, chips, soda and lemonade.

-Hosting a lemonade or Kool-Aid® stand is tons of fun for kids, plus it’s a great way to cultivate their entrepreneurial spirit. Hold one in conjunction with a neighborhood garage sale to boost traffic. To teach the importance of giving, you can even encourage kids to pick a local charity and donate their profits.

You can find more great information in the e-books over at More Mileage for your Money.

Day Planner Update

Do you remember this post on Simple Organized Sanity where I received personalized day planner pages?  I said I would give them a try for 30 and then reevaluate.  The verdict is in, I love the planner pages.  There is lots of space for me to keep track of what's going on and I have found myself to be much more productive when I want to cross something off the page.  I went to the copy store last week and have them make me enough copies to make it through January and I will reevaluate again.  I even had them printed on fun pastel colored paper!

What was I thinking...

I'm traveling with my parents and sister to visit relatives in Tennessee this week.  That's 4 adults, 3 children (under 3) and a dog, crammed in the car for 6+ hours.  Needless to say we are taking 2 DVD players, lots of snacks and pillows.  I can't read in the car because it makes me sick so my sister and I will be chatting, watching movies and calming screaming children the whole way.  I have some great posts lined up while I'm gone and will be posting while I am away.  There are lots of Birthday Bash giveaways ending this week so I will have lots of winners to draw, keep your eyes open for emails!!!

Do you have any tips for traveling with kids?

Life, In Spite of Me Blog Tour

About the book: After her fatal choice... extraordinary hope.

Why does my life have to be so painful?
What's wrong with me?
It's not going to get better.
It could all be over soon, and then I won't hurt anymore.

Kristen Anderson thought she had the picture perfect life until strokes of gray dimmed her outlook on life. Once a happy child, Kristen's world darkened after three friends and her grandmother died within two years. Still reeling from these losses, she was raped by a friend she thought she could trust. She soon spiraled into a depression that didn't seem to have a bottom.

One January night, the seventeen-year-old made a decision: She no longer wanted to deal with the emotional pain that smothered her. She lay down on a set of cold railroad tracks and waited-for a freight train to send her to heaven...and peace.

Fear coursed through me. I squeezed my eyes tighter.
It's going to be over now. The pain is going to end. I'll be in heaven soon.
As the train whistle blew, the vibration of my body stilled.
The sound stopped. The wind stopped. The train stopped.
Am I dead yet?

Amazingly, Kristen survived her suicide attempt... but the 33 freight cars that ran over her severed her legs. Now she not only had to deal with depression; she also had to face the physical pain and life without legs.

But Kristen's story didn't end there. After her darkest days Kristen discovered a real purpose for living. Now, in her compelling book Life, In Spite of Me, Kristen shares her journey from despair to hope.

Includes letters from Kristen that share messages she wishes someone would have told her-when she was depressed and struggling with loss, shame from sexual abuse, and suicidal thoughts.

Review: I was very moved by Kristen's story.  Within the first chapter a train has run over Kristin and she is hanging onto life through a miracle.  A miracle only God is capable of performing.  Even professional train workers have told here that she should be dead.  Life, In Spite of Me provides inspiration for anyone who has thought even for a moment that there life wasn't worth living.  It's for anyone who wants to learn from experience and gain insight on how to reach out to those in their life who are struggling.  While reading Life, In Spite of Me I found myself sorting through a gamet of emotions.  The most powerful emotion I felt was one of love.  To see Gods love shining through Kristen's friends and family and how she shares of God's love and grace through her ministry Reaching You.

Amazing Grace was a song she mentioned hearing over and over again in her mind the night of the accident.  This song provides hope to so many.  God's grace is powerful in changing lives and He freely gives it.  Kristen was able to embrace this grace and is living her live to the fullest despite the incredible obstacles she has faced.

You can find more information and reviews on the blog tour page.

Buy it:You can purchase Life, In Spite of Me online and at a book retailer near you.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for the purpose of this review.  Thanks to litfuse Publicity for this great opportunity.

Cheribundi Juice Review

About: cheribundi™ starts as Montmorency cherries grown in Michigan and New York orchards. We use a proprietary juicing process that was developed with Cornell University to make a drink that retains all the power and benefits of the nutrients and antioxidants found in the little round fruits. cheribundi™ has more disease-fighting antioxidants than other juices and has been tested in the lab and field by athletes and people who just work out. Because cheribundi™ is all-natural and not from concentrate, it's a feel-better and live-healthier addition to your lifestyle.

 What We Believe In:
More. Good-for-you phytonutrients, that is. Other superfruits and juices just can't compare. Our gentle juicing process doesn't boil away nutrients - it puts them directly into the bottle.

Testing. cheribundi™ has been tested in the lab and on the playing field by amateur, college and professional athletes. The tests have revealed that a daily regimen of our cherry juice aids everyone from pro-athletes to those just trying to stay fit or active and healthy.

Nature. The abundance of cherry-goodness in cheribundi™ is all-natural. Whew! So, while you're trying to stay healthy by being active, you can rest assured that cheribundi™ is on your side and naturally helps you live an active, healthy lifestyle.

Review: I love cherries, whenever anyone gets one on their sundae, milkshake or drink...I take it.  I didn't know that cherries were so good for me.  The thought of drinking straight cherry juice was a little frightening.  I thought it might be too tart for my taste.  I took a few sips of the juice by itself and then decided to mix it up with my soda and other juices.  Visit the cheribundi™ website and you can sign up to receive an email with recipes using their drinks!

Do you children like the occasion cup of juice?  Wouldn't you feel better if you knew it was providing them with healthy benefits?  I let my son try out the tru cherry drink and he loved it.

You can keep up with cheribundi™ on twitter and facebook!

Buy it: CLICK HERE to find a retailer near you.

Baby Diner Review

About: The Baby Diner is a device that attaches to any smooth table top or structure and allows a parent or guardian to secure a plate, bowl or any other dinnerware to prevent accidentally knocking or throwing of plates, bowls and even cups (with the cup holder attachment) on the floor by young children, persons with special needs or outdoor enthusiasts.  It also provides a safe and sanitary eating environment when dining out. Baby Diner works great with all standard restaurant bowls, plates and baskets of all types. Practically anything that has a smooth and non-porous bottom works!

Review: As soon as the waiter brings our food I immediately take my sons plate and put it out of his reach.  Mom's and Dad's, you've been there too haven't you?  Crossing your fingers that the meal ends with all plates in tack and no one wearing their food.  Like the creators of baby diner I too have tried many different products.  I was even issued a refund for a suction plate because it DID NOT work.

When I received the baby diner I wasn't sure it would survive a date with my son.  Some assembly is required to get your baby diner ready.  The easy to follow instructions will have it read for dinner!  I tried out the baby diner before my son used it.  It suctioned easily to our glass table top and I attached a melamine plate, after a little tugging and spinning the plate was still suctioned to the baby diner and it was still attached to the table.

My inquisitive toddler sat in his chair and starred at the contraption in front of him.  He looked under the plate, turned it, pulled at it, everything he could to try and get it off the table.  Thankfully he realized it wasn't going anywhere and he settled in to eating his diner.  I love that the baby diner doesn't touch your food so you don't have to wash it every time you use it.  I'm a little of a clean freak so I would probably keep it in a zip lock bag after it touched the table at a restaurant.  What a great gift idea for all the parents you know.

Buy it: Order a FREE Baby Diner HERE.  You only pay shipping!

Disclosure: I received a Baby Diner for the purpose of this review.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.

Log Cabin All Natural Syrup

About: Log Cabin® Syrup—a family household tradition since 1887—launches the first ever nationally distributed All Natural syrup. This introduction follows the recent removal of high fructose corn syrup from all Log Cabin products and is driven by growing consumer demand for high quality products that are all natural with no artificial colors or flavors. This new authentic syrup is made with only the finest All Natural ingredients while also being gluten free, whilst still maintaining that delicious taste.

Review: My son loves syrup.  Sometimes I wonder if I put syrup on chicken tenders if he would eat them.  I try to buy the low sugar versions so when I heard about log cabins all natural syrup I was really excited.  During one of our typical waffle mornings I switched out his regular syrup with the log cabin.  He didn't even bat an eye.  The flavor of the log cabin all natural syrup is just as good as the "full of sugar" syrup we were using everyday.  I enjoy the occasional waffle or french toast and this syrup is topping worthy!

Buy it: Log Cabin All Natural can be found in retailers nationwide in the specialty syrups section: Size-22 fl oz, Price- $4.99

Disclosure: I received a bottle of Log Cabin All Natural syrup for the purpose of this review.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.

Road to Relevant

I'm the next stop on the road to Relevant over at Gather in Spirit.  If you haven't already checked out the great site they have, you can find inspiring articles, blogger spotlights and more bloggers on the road to Relevant!  I remember a few months ago when I first read about The Relevant Blog Conference.  I think I was reading Bring the Rain Angie Smith's blog.  She is part of an amazing group of speakers.  I mentioned it to my husband in passing thinking there was no way I would be able to go with 2 little ones at home.

Relevant is a place to connect kindred hearts; to enjoy sweet and fruitful fellowship;
to engage one another in sharing, inspiring, and learning,
and to figure out how to integrate  our lives fully with our faith and family…
all the while glorifying Him amidst this blogging tidal wave.

As the time got closer for ticket sales I started reading more and more tweets (#relevant10) from great bloggers about the conference.  I decided to check into the details a little more and when I map quested how far it was from my house (I absolutely hate to fly) I realized it was less than 5 hours!  I used to drive 4 hours back and forth from college, I could drive that.  Besides, what mother wouldn't like 5 hours of uninterrupted alone time!  I talked with my husband again going back and forth, back and forth.  He was so supportive and told me to just buy the ticket and we would work it all out.  So I stayed up until midnight to buy my ticket which turned into 1am, I think...I got caught up in all the tweeting about the conference.  I already have a roommate, you can read more about her on her blog DUTCHbeingME.  We've been exchanging emails and tweeting but I can't wait to meet her in person.

I'm still looking for sponsors to help me on the road to Relevant.  If you would like your company to have a presence at this conference please visit my sponsor page for more information.

If you're going, I can't wait to meet you in October...if you're not, you should pick up your ticket and make plans to attend a conference that is sure to change your life.

Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil Review

About: This Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a truly unrefined coconut oil. This coconut oil is made on Mt. Banahaw and surrounding areas from organic coconuts. Coconuts are used fresh (within 24-48 hours of harvest) from small family farms on Mt. Banahaw and other rural places in Quezon Province, the coconut capital of the Philippines. Only the highest quality coconuts are hand-picked from each harvest.

Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss. For hundreds of tasty recipes from people who use coconut oil, visit FreeCoconutRecipes.com.

Review: When I first started reading about coconut oil I was a little leary.  It didn't look all that appealing when I looked at it online but I wanted to give it a shot.  I like coconuts so it couldn't be too bad.  I didn't want to substitute the oil in just anything so I searched around on Topical Traditions recipe blog until I found something that sounded good and was easy to make.  I didn't tell my husband that I was using it because he does not like coconut and I thought he might not eat it.

The taste of the dish did not seem to vary too much from what I thought it would.  I like that there are so many gluten free options using coconut products.  The oil has the consistency of Crisco when is hardens.  You can smell a slight coconut scent when you are using the product.  I would recommend this to anyone looking for a healthy product, especially if you are making foods with some dietary restrictions.

You can keep up with Tropical Traditions on facebook and twitter.

Buy it: You can purchase Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil at Tropical Traditions.

Disclosure: I was sent Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions for the purpose of this review.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.

Wonder Hanger Review

About: Each Wonder Hanger holds 5 wood, metal or plastic hangers.  There are 8 to a package – enough to hang 40 garments – designed to be used together in the same closet to maximize space savings. It is also strong.  Supporting up to 20 pounds, it can hold up to 5 heavy winter jackets.

Review: I'm sure have seen the commercials for this great product.  I saw one just this morning.  I had to try wonder hanger out for myself.  I'm embarrassed to show you my closet but the wonder hanger is really great and I want you to see it in action!  Even my husband noticed the change in the closet and how much space it had created.

The wonder hangers are easy to put together and use.  I really like that you can use any kind of hanger with them.  We have a mismatch of hangers and I certainly didn't want to have to purchase new hangers and re-hang everything.  It's easy to remove a hanger and your clothes won't wrinkle.  With a limited amount of space these hanger come in really handy.  The hall closet could sure use a set of these!  Are you thinking of all the closets your could use wonder hangers in?

Buy it: Available at major retail chains including Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and CVS retails for $9.99 and can also be found online at www.buywonderhanger.com .

Disclosure: I received a set of wonder hangers for the purpose of this review.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.

Review:  I received these two great activity packets from braininsights
  • Love Your Baby- Making Connection in the first year
  • Play with me while I'm Three- Making connections with your three year old
The front of each card includes an activity for you and your child to do together.  The back of the card provides a little insight into how the activity encourages brain development in your child.  Here are a few of the activities I took advantage of and how they made an impact on me as a mother.  I can only imagine how they have helped to shape the minds of my little ones.

Physical play: since my daughter has started crawling I am constantly chasing after her.  I hadn't really thought about letting her climb over my like a personal jungle gym until I read the braininsights activity packets.  This activity helps her to explore crawling and climbing in a safe way.  I also feel more connected because she is interacting with me.

Find the color: We recently took the kids to see Sesame Street Live.  While we were waiting for the show to start I played this game with my son.  I would say a color and he would point out something that was that color.  This game encourages him to be aware of his surroundings and distinguish between colors.  I am constantly amazed at how well he is at recognizing colors!

Notice all of the good: I think sometimes I don't praise my son enough for the good things he does.  This card helped to remind me that he learns from the praise as well as discipline.

The size of these activity packets make them easy to carry around with you.  The are very sturdy and held together well.  You will want to keep them close to you so you can take advantage of the snippets of free time during your day.  They are perfect for diaper bags, in the car or stashing in your purse.  I will definitely keep these packets handy over the next few years.  If you don't have an infant or 3 year old, don't worry Deborah has an activity packet for you.

Also available are:
  • Fun while I'm one
  • More to do while I'm two
  • Play with me while I'm three
  • Let's learn more while I'm four
  • Help me thrive while I'm five
Learning how to spend time with your child and teaching them things that help them grow and learn is an amazing gift.  The braininsights activity packets help foster this positive interaction between parents and children.  They make great gifts for Moms, Dads, even Grandparents!

Redbook's Mom's Survival Guide Review

Mom's Survival Guide
Save Time, Money, and Your Sanity

Product Description:  Just because the childbirth, sleepless nights, and potty training days are over, doesn’t mean that the lives of mothers get any easier. Welcome to childhood; a time full of temper tantrums, sibling rivalries, and school. Thanks to the advice, tips, and techniques in Mom's Survival Guide (Hearst Books/ April 2010/ $16.95), all moms will learn how to deal with of the ups and downs of this next phase.

In Mom's Survival Guide moms will find real wisdom from experts, time-tested tips from everyday moms, and helpful stories submitted by REDBOOK readers. This book covers both serious and light hearted topics such as:
  • The importance of finding “me time” for all moms.
  • What to do when you catch your child in a lie.
  • How to deal with “puppy love”.
  • Tips for taking the perfect family photo.
  • How to prepare for back-to-school madness.
  • The best ways to handle a public tantrum.
  • Tips to get your child to do homework without nagging.
Written in an engaging and humorous mom-to-mom voice, this book will provide mothers with the tools necessary to create the healthiest, safest, and richest childhood for their kids. It will help them build strong, lasting relationships with their children, a crucial step before they enter adolescence. Raising children is not easy! All moms should let Mom's Survival Guide help steer them through the rough patches of childhood and allow them to enjoy raising their children.

Review: As a busy Mom I am always looking for resources to help me be a better Mom.  Redbook's Mom's Survival Guide is a great book that provides information on nine great topics.  I find that it's always great to seek out advice from friends but I also know that there are times when you think you are the only Mom with a particular problem.  Books provide a outlet for scared Mom's who needs a little support and don't want to ask their friends.  Some of the information in the book I already knew or seemed to be a no brainier but there was new and very helpful information as well.  I was not able to fully take advantage of the information in a few of the chapters as my children are still very little.  In time I will find myself reading up on the school information!

I have been hearing a lot lately about taking time for yourself and how important it is to do something everyday for you.  Snippets from this book reminded me of the importance of maintaining the hobbies I had before becoming a Mom.  This book provides real life tips and input from Mom's just like you and me.  Mom's Survival Guide is a book I can see myself going back to time and time again for great advice on everyday situations.  It's always reassuring to know that there are other Mom's out there who struggle with the same problems and have the same worries about their children.

Buy it: You can purchase Redbook's Mom's Survival Guide online or at a book retailer near you.

Lysol Disinfecting Wipes & Disinfectant Spray Review & Giveaway

About: Allergy season is in full swing!  Did you know that Lysol can help you control indoor allergens?  Using these products can help keep you and your family healthy year-round.

Allergy flare-ups are often attributed to the allergens outside your front door. However, did you know that the same allergens are found on surfaces inside 75 million homes across America? According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), some of the most common indoor allergens, include dust mites, mold and household pets.

Some easy ways to reduce allergy suffering in the home include:
  • Reduce Pet Dander - Decrease your exposure to pet dander by keeping your pet out of your bedroom, since this is typically the room in which people spend a majority of their time.
  • Wrap Things Up - Put fabric covers over common dust mite hideouts such as pillows, mattresses and sofa cushions and wash bedding often.
  • Clear the Air - Prevent pollen from entering your home by keeping windows and doors closed during peak allergy season. Air filters are also considered useful for helping clear the air of lingering allergens triggers.
  • Wipe Down Surfaces - Be sure to frequently clean hard surfaces to get rid of allergens in your home. Use LYSOL Disinfecting Wipes to remove 90% of pollen particles and dust mite debris, in addition to killing 99.9% of illness-causing bacteria. Also use LYSOL Disinfectant Spray to kill the source of mold allergens on hard, non-porous surfaces.
  • Avoid Mold Spores - To help reduce mold: use an air conditioner in humid climates and avoid the use of humidifiers in dry climates. Also, run the bathroom fan or open the window when showering.
  • Talk to Your Doctor - It is important to talk to your doctor about whether or not allergy testing, medications, and/or other measures are recommended.

For more information, visit www.lysol.com.

Review: Chances are you have heard of and even used Lysol products but did you know they help reduce allergens?  I had no idea that by using some of their products I would be reducing allergens in my home.  I hate germs, I am one of those people who washes there hands every 5 minutes.

I absolutely love the Lysol disinfecting wipes.  The thought of using a sponge to clean grosses me out a little bit.  With the wipes that's all you need, no spraying, sponge or towel.  As a busy Mom I need something that can get the job done in a short amount of time.  Lysol disinfecting wipes are the perfect solution.  I have a canister under every sink, even in my car!

When using any of the 7 Lysol disinfectant spray scents you won't mind cleaning.  Having young children around the house I don't like when everything smells like bleach or heavy cleaning solutions.  I think I use this product just about everyday when I take out the diapers.

Buy it: You can purchase these and other Lysol products at grocery, drug or super centers near you.

Win it: 1 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and can of Lysol Disinfectant Spray.

Mandatory Entry: Tell me what chore you dislike the most.
