We have all been distracted by work, errands, time pressures and the number of commitments we are trying to keep up with in a day, even when supervising a child. What happened to a family in a small town outside of Atlanta, GA can happen to anyone. What happens when a community rallies around a distraught family to search for their missing two year-old boy, Joe Simpkins, changes lives.

In the GMC World Premiere movie The Way Home, Dean Cain stars as Randy Simpkins, a husband and father torn between the demands of his job and commitment to his family. His faith is tested in a battle against guilt, fear and the devastating grief that comes when faced with the potential loss of a child. Lori Beth Edgeman (Get Low) plays Christal Simpkins, the mother of little Joe and wife of Randy, who is struggling to bring her family back together. Sonny Shroyer (The Dukes of Hazard) plays Ed Walker, a member of the community who reveals how he felt compelled to join the search when he finds out the boy’s name was Joe, the namesake of the brother that Ed lost many years before. Tom Nowicki (The Blind Side) plays Sheriff Tony Reeves. Brett Rice (Remember the Titans) plays Fire Chief Gary Thomas. The movie was shot at the exact location in Carrollton, GA, where the actual events occurred.

Review: I have seen flashlights and laser pointers but never as a 2 in 1 deal.  I like that this product is multi-functional.  The flashlight is great for finding the keyhole when you forgot to turn the outside light on.  You can even use it when you're out walking the dog.  Just the other night I used this flashlight keychain to search for my ipod under my sons bed!

The laser pointer is great entertainment for everyone.  My son and dog both enjoyed following/chasing the light all around the house.  The laser pointer is great for drawing attention to things.  I have used it a few times to point out things to my son.  I think it would be a great tool for homeschoolers and business associates.  With it being a keychain you will always have it handy!

10 Things my #Relevant10 Roommates Should Know About Me

While I'm bummed that my original Relevant roomie is no longer attending I am excited that these lovely ladies have an extra spot in their room.

Dawn @ 5 Kids and a Dog
Stephanie @ Bowmania

  1. This is the first time I have left my daughter overnight and I'm a little anxious
  2. I love taking pictures
  3. I love reading blogs
  4. I love a good deal
  5. I never sleep well at a new place
  6. I have an identical twin sister
  7. While I love my kids dearly I am sooo looking forward to the change to met other amazing women bloggers!
  8. I love fun pens and notebooks and will probably have a few dozen for the conference!
  9. I'm a big football fan, especially the Virginia Tech Hokies.  College football games are some of my best memories.
  10. I was a Pastors wife for 3 years (probably will be again in the future).  Hubby still works in ministry just not as a Pastor.
While I am outgoing and love being around people I do sometimes wonder what I was thinking going to PA to a conference where I have actually only meet 1 other person in attendance.  Discussions on twitter and finding new blogs for Relevant attendees has helped me to know that we are all pretty much in the same boat.  It's not about the size of your blog but the size of your heart that matters.  We all want to find new and creative ways to grow our blogs.

Review: Awesome is what comes to my mind when I of Gaddy Nipper Crayons.  I received the choo choo crayon set.  It arrived packed very nicely in a cellophane bag.  The crayons were so perfect it honestly took me a few days before I would let me son play with them.  When I pulled them out he started naming the train cars and arranging them in a line.  With a little coaxing he began to color with them.  Even after a few light uses the crayons are sill true to their train form.
What child doesn't love crayons?  Gaddy Nipper Crayons make the perfect gift, pair any of the sets with a coloring book or two and it's a hit with all the kids.  How about crayons as party favors?  My sister is thinking about doing a Sesame Street theme party for her daughter and these Elmo crayons would be perfect.  Other crayon shapes you will find include:
  • legos
  • ladybugs
  • tractors
  • numbers
  • letters
  • you can even pick up batman crayons

FractureMe.com Review

About: Printing and framing pictures is often a huge hassle and can become really expensive really fast. Between getting your photos printed, finding a suitable frame, and figuring out how to mount them, the frustrations (and dollars) have mounted, and the magic has gone away.  However, you now have a contemporary, affordable, and practical way to show off all your favorite family pictures -- Fracture.  Fracture is the fastest, easiest, best way to get your pictures from your camera to your wall.

Fracture's introductory product lets you print your digital pictures right onto glass!  There's no paper, film or anything involved.  Simply ink and glass.  We have effectively combined printing, framing, and mounting into one simple process.  You upload your photo to FractureMe.com, we print it on glass, and send it on it's way with everything you need to mount and display. It's a one-stop, complete photo decor solution.

Fractures are very safe: all sharp edges are removed, and they are completely okay to touch and handle.
Fractures are durable: the prints are shatter proof (unlike traditional glass frames), and the images will not fade for years beyond average prints.

Review: FractureMe.com is a great alternative to expensive framing.  The ordering process is very easy, the shipping was prompt and the picture was packaged nice and secure.  Check out this great demo on how the process of selecting your Fracture works.  We recently had family pictures taken and I knew a big frame just wasn't in the budget so I thought this would be a great opportunity to have our family picture printed in 8x10.
  • no sharp edges
  • everything to hang the picture is included
  • no frame needed

You can pick up a fracture in sizes ranging from 5x7 to 11x14.  You can also choose from three shapes, landscape, square or portrait.  The pricing is very reasonable and I think you will be very satisfied with the end result, I know I am.  Keep up with Fracture on Facebook and twitter for the latest news.

                                      ~ StarCostumes.com

Review: With Halloween a little over a month away you can't help but think about Halloween.  Not to mention candy overload at all the stores!  I recently learned about a one stop shop for all your costume needs, Star Costumes.  They seriously have a costume for everyone in your family, how cute would it be to dress the whole family is Wizard of Oz themed costumes?  I think my son would make a great lion.  My dog is nothing like toto and I'm not sure she would actually wear a costume but there are some pretty cute pet ones.

I'm excited about taking the kids trick or treating this year.  It will be the first time my daughter can really get in on the fun so I decided to pick out a cute costume for her.  I didn't want to pick anything too scary so even though the costume I picked has witch in the title it's super cute and not scary at all!  I did order it in a larger size than she usually wears so she could dress up in it a little while past Halloween.  The costume included everything I need to complete the look including tights and the arm warmers.  I think my daughters favorite part of the costume is the hat, she loved taking it on and off  her head.  My favorite thing is the yellow tutu at the bottom of the dress.  She really does look sweet in this candy corn costume doesn't she?

Remember that costumes are not just for Halloween. Costumes and costume accessories (including jewelry, hats, wigs, gloves, makeup, etc.) from StarCostumes.com also make wonderful, thoughtful gifts for our loved ones. Children love to get dressed up for any reason and any occasion.

If your family is not big on trick or treating that's okay, you still need to check out Star Costumes!  You never know when your child is going to want a princess costume to play dress up in, or when you might need to be a clown for the little ones birthday party.

Buy it: You can purchase costumes for everyone on the Star Costumes website.

Win it: 1 Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win a $30 gift certificate to Star Costumes.

Mandatory Entry: Visit Star Costumes and tell me your favorite costume.

Switching on the Moon - Book Review

Switching on the Moon: A Very First Book of Bedtime Poems

author: Jane Yolen
illustrator: G. Brian Karas
co-author : Andrew Fusek Peters

From the hoot of an owl to the horns of the city, from children giggling in the bath to the hushed notes of a lullaby, here is an exquisite anthology that captures the universal poetry of bedtime. Expertly gathered by Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters, these sixty poems range from old favorite poets such as Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Sylvia Plath, and Eleanor Farjeon to beloved contemporary poets like Marilyn Singer, Lee Bennett Hopkins, and Children’s Poet Laureate Mary Ann Hoberman. Beautifully illustrated by G. Brian Karas with richness and whimsy, Switching on the Moon is the perfect book to share with a child to usher in a night of sweet dreams.

This wide-ranging collection of bedtime poems is an inspired baby gift that will find a treasured place on children’s nightstands everywhere.

Review: Switching on the Moon truly is my kids first book of bedtime poems!  I'm not sure why but a book of poems isn't something we have picked up along the way so this book has an important place on the bookshelf in our house.  Each poem in the book is short and sweet.  We read a few a night and I try to pick ones that my son will be able to understand.  My Bed Where a Boy Dreams is one of his favorites.  In this poem a boy dreams that his bed is a boat, race car, even a submarine.  The illustrations are true to each poem and allow children of all ages to visualize the poem as they drift off to sleep.

Buy it: You can pick up Switching on the Moon online.

Tuck Me In! Book Review & Giveaway

author/illustrator: Dean Hacohen
co-author : Sherry Scharschmidt

The stars are out. The moon is rising. All the baby animals, from peacocks to pigs to zebras, are ready for bed. Will you tuck them in and say good night? Just turn the pages and the big inviting flaps that serve as blankets cover each little creature up to its chin. This simple but endlessly satisfying novelty, with its array of goggle-eyed baby animals, bold patterns, and vibrant colors, is sure to be the book of choice for little ones everywhere, night after night.

Who needs to be tucked in? Turn each page until all baby animals--and little readers--are cozy and ready for sleep in this irresistible bedtime ritual.

Review: Tuck Me In! is one of the cutest bedtime books I have seen in awhile. Each turn of the page brings a new animal needing to be tucked in. Kids can interact with the book by turning the page and pulling the sheet over the animal. The vibrant colors make each page pop drawing in your little one. My son is old enough to know what the animals are so he gets very excited when we pull this book out and he happily reads along. Book are a wonderful way to spend time with your children and encourage creativity. Tuck Me In! has easy to read and repetitive sentences so it's the perfect book to build up childrens self esteem towards reading. I recommend picking up a copy of this book and add a special touch to bedtime.

Buy it: You can purchase Tuck Me In! online or at a bookstore near you.

Healthy Hair for Healthy Water

Pantene is proud to announce a charitable partnership with the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) program called Healthy Hair for Healthy Water, a collaboration that will help women and their world shine through healthier water.  Through this campaign, Pantene will help CSDW reach its goal to ‘save a life every hour’ in the developing world by providing two billion liters of clean water every year by 2020.

“Mothers lose 1.8 million children every year from diarrheal diseases caused by contaminated water – more than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined,” says Dr. Greg Allgood, Director, CSDW. “Pantene’s commitment to improving the health of women and their children through its Healthy Hair for Healthy Water program is a means to help address this global health issue.”

The campaign will deliver clean, purified drinking water to needy areas via low-cost PUR packets, one of which quickly turns 10 liters of dirty, potentially deadly water into clean, drinkable water.  Although CSDW is named after the children, Allgood says it is women who bring the program to life. “The true heroes of the CSDW program are women, as they provide 90% of all of the PUR packets.”

In the United Sates, consumers can make a difference now by purchasing Pantene products from the P&G eStore at http://www.pgestore.com/Pantene/pantene,default,sc.html. For each bottle purchased from the eStore through February 28, 2011, Pantene will donate 10 cents to CSDW, which is the cost of providing one week’s worth of clean drinking water (10 liters) for a child in the developing world.

JEOPARDY! app at itunes

Released just the month, it's JEOPARDY!

You will feel like you a re right on th e set with Alex Trebeck. The first thing that caught my attention was that you get to write your name using the touch screen just like the real game. You can choose what level questions you would like to have and whether you want to play multi-player or solo. You can customize your player by gender, hair style, glasses, even down to the color of the shirt your player is wearing. It reminds of the tv version with the multiple rounds and board game layout. I have played the easy and medium versions of the game and both have been very entertaining and educational. I'm not the best at trivia, that's my husbands thing so I was glad to see that you are given choices when answering the questions.

I am always looking for something to keep me entertained during the down time and when I can pry my iPod touch out of my sons hand. This usually means I get to play some games in the evening before nodding off. The JEOPARDY! app gives me a chance to sharpen my mind with trivia while having fun at the same time. At this low price you won't be disappointed in this app.

Buy it: You can purchase Jeopardy for $1.99 (ipod, iphone) in the itunes store.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iPS 3.0 or later.

Disclaimer: I received this app for the purpose of the review. No other compensation was received. All views expressed are my own opinions.

You've been Sentenced Board Game Review & Giveaway

Product Description: The latest in the evolution of games, “You've been Sentenced!” is the first game in history to really turn making sentences into a very funny, playable, and challenging game. Using a unique word deck of pentagon shaped cards containing conjugations of funny words, famous names from throughout history, familiar places, and wild cards, players have to make grammatically correct and justifiable sentences.

Review:The jury is unanimous on how much fun this game is.  We have played it a few times and it always involves lots of laughter.  The game is easy for adults and children alike to play.  For children (8 and up) this game is a great way to work on sentence structure and teach them how there are different forms of words and how they are used in a sentence.  You've Been Sentenced allows all players to use their creativity and makes for great family fun.

How to play: Each player is given 10 cards and must use them to make a sentence.  Points are earned based on how many words you use and how many points they are worth.  Once a player is confident in their sentence they flip the hour class and all the other players must complete their sentences before time runs out.  After everyone is done the jury is out and players get to vote on whether or not a sentence should count.

Since there is judging at the end of the round you may want to specify whether or not you are looking for serious grammatically correct sentences or if players can use their imagination and you are looking for sentences that make sense but might not technically be considered a proper sentence.  With so many words, the possibilities are endless.  You can even purchase add on packs for more words and even better sentences!  This game is great for parties, I can see how this game could get very competitive and entertaining.  My husband didn't like my sentences too much, kept telling me they weren't actually sentences or something crazy like that!  You can even play online  Be sure to follow McNeill Designs on twitter to keep up with news and announcements.

Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders Saved Our Family Dinner Time!

A few weeks ago I received a coupon for a free perdue whole grain chicken product from the freezer section.  I was really excited about trying out some chicken with my daughter, she had only had it one other time and seemed to really like it.    I really wanted to try out the popcorn chicken but once I finaly found it the price was more than the free product coupon would allow so I picked up the chicken tenders instead.  I have had the opportunity to make them a few times and both of my children and my husband like them.  This is a tall order as my son is a very picky eater and most of his dinners consist of peanut butter sandwiches.  He likes to dip his in ketchup but my daughter goobles them up plain.  Dinnertime is so much better when both kids are happily eating away.

Perdue Whole Grain Chicken
  • Premium all white meat chicken with whole grain breading
  • Provides 8g of whole grains & 4g of fiber per serving.
  • Excellent source of protein for mealtime or a snack.
I highly recommend these chicken tenders to everyone.  If my kids like them yours are sure to eat them as well.  It's great as a busy mom to have a product in my freezer that is easy to cook up, good for my kids and tasty too.

Disclaimer: I received a free product coupon to allow me to try this product.  This was in connection with Resourceful Mommy Media.

Dream Jam Band - Leave it in the Soup CD Review & Giveaway

About: Just about everyone has had a bad hair day, and children are especially prone to knots, snarls, cowlicks and unmanageable curls - not to mention tearful comb resistance. The Dream Jam Band feels their pain, and their parents', and "Bad Hair Day," from their second album 'Leave It In The Soup', offers entertaining reassurance.  The Dream Jam Band are five musicians from the Northeast who write and play an eclectic collection of original music for children of all ages young and old.

The DJB members, Francine, Barry G, Maestro C, and Erin the Red are entertainers as well as music teachers. Their influences range from The Beatles to Mozart from Duke Ellington to Woody Guthrie. Formed in New York, the band achieved rapid national success. Their eponymous first album Dream Jam Band featured eleven original songs, two of which, “Nicky Nicky Knock Knock” and “Look Around” reached Number One at SiriusXM satellite radio. The album was named to the Top Ten List of National Public Radio’s best Children’s and Family Albums, and also won four Children’s Web Awards and received extensive airplay on kids’ programming across the USA.

Review: The songs on this CD are hilarious.  I am so used to songs with repetitiveness or the traditional nursery rhymes so this was a nice change of pace.  The songs each have a cute and catchy story.  I have found myself on more than one occasion tapping my feet to the beat.  Leave it in the Soup is great for kids of all ages.  We have been listening to the CD in the car but it would also be a great CD for play time or bed time!

Song List
   1.  Dance Like A Skeleton
   2. Bad Hair Day
   3. Leave It In The Soup
   4. Have A Party When You Get The Blues

   6. I Can't Tie My Shoes
   7. Boing
   8. Friends Of The Sea
   9. Melanie The Mermaid
  10. This Old Town
  11. The Lullaby

I Can't Tie My Shoes and Bad Hair Day are favorites in our family.  You can listen to songs from both of the Dream Jam Bands CDs on their website.

Buy it: You can purchase Leave it in the Soup online along with The Dream Jam Band's other CD or on itunes.

Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewels Review & Giveaway

About: Dr. Bloom Inc. was founded in 2003 by sisters Helen Bloom Smith DMD and Joy Bloom Wright along with friend Mary Wheeler Settlemier.  All three are mothers who have nine children between them.  Intrigued by the idea, Dr. Bloom continued to research the concept of jewelry designed for moms and safe for babies & toddlers. She realized this concept did not exist. As a mother of a two month old, she then designed and prototyped the first bracelet as a gift for her sister.  She immediately set out in search of the material for her product and realized, through research and development that most teethers are made of plastics that leach harmful carcinogenic chemicals. It was then that she realized how important it was to produce a product that was not only utilitarian and fashionable, but also safe.

Review: I don't even know the last time I wore a necklace or bracelet for that matter.  My son liked to pull on necklaces and even broke one of his Grammy's chains.  My daughter likes to chew on everything so when I'm holding her she would go straight for the shiny necklace or bracelet!  Dr. Bloom's teething jewelry has completely changed my accessories.  I recently received a Dr. Bloom's combo set in pink.  The slide comes on a latex free cording that is made with elasticity to allow for stretching.  My daughter and I have both enjoyed this necklace.  It's also easy enough to take the bracelet and let Grand mommy or a baby sitter wear it and keep your little one happy.  The necklaces and bracelets can be worn around the house or out and about

Facts and Safety
  • Dentist Created and Endorsed
  • FDA approved materials
  • Phthalate Free
  • Lead Free
  • BPA, PVC, Latex Free
  • Waterproof
  • Dishwasher Safe
  • Fashionable

I think my favorite feature of this product is that it's dishwasher safe.  I put the slide and bracelet in with the sippy cup pieces on a regular basis to keep them clean.

Dr. Bloom's has more than just necklaces and bracelets.  You can even pick up a teething keychain.  I can't even begin to tell you how many times my daughter has grabbed for my keys and wanted to chew on them!  Items from Dr. Bloom's make the perfect baby shower present, it's a gift that both Mom and baby can enjoy.  With all the great color combination's available you are certain to find one that fits everyone's style.

Buy it: You can purchase Dr. Bloom's Chewable jewelry online.

Win it: 1 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will receive a combo set of teething jewelry from Dr. Bloom's.

Mandatory Entry: Visit Dr. Bloom's Chewable Jewelry and tell me your favorite one.
Please make sure if your email address is not visible in your blogger profile that you leave one in your initial entry.
