Halloween Clearance Starts Tomorrow!

Stores will start slashing Halloween product prices to make room for all the Christmas merchandise.  I will be at Target first thing in the morning to pick up some candy, trick or treat play doh containers and other candy for stocking stuffers.  Yep, that's right, I buy Halloween candy for Christmas..hey it's still candy isn't it?

Here are some other things I recommend stocking up on at the reduced price!
  • Costume for next year
  • Trick or treat toys (play doh)
  • Holiday paper products
  • Candy (you can always use candy)
  • Stationary Products
  • Holiday themed books (last year Target put these on clearance too)
  • Decorations
  • Wrapping paper/gift bags

Snickers Coolest House on The Block

I am so excited to be giving away Snickers and the all new Snickers Peanut butter squared to our trick or treaters later today.  Thanks to SheSpeaks I am part of "The Coolest House on the Block" campaign to get the word out about this new candy bar.  Not too many houses in my neighborhood decorate so it's not too hard to be cool.  The kit I received sure made it easy, I received "caution" tape, a strobe light, a spider web, fog machine and tons of Snicker candy!  I put up some of the decorations but we had a big rain and I have since had to re-decorate and everything will be out in full gear this evening.  I had so much fun making trick-or-treat packs for anyone who comes by tomorrow evening.  I can't wait to share more pictures with you later in the week.
My thoughts on Snicker Peanut Butter Squared: Yummy!  I noticed that you get a few less in a fun size bag than with the traditional Snickers bars but the peanut butter ones are much thicker.  My mother-in-law who doesn't even like peanut butter loved this new Snickers bar.

This new candy bar won't be available in store until Winter 2010 so be sure and keep your eyes out for a "Coolest House on the Block" near you.  For more information you can check out the Snickers facebook page.

Do you decorate for holidays?  We haven't done too much in the past but with the kids getting older and getting into the holidays I see lots of decorating in my future.

Disclosure: I received a Coolest House on the Block kit from SheSpeaks for this campaign.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.

Bing "Our School Needs" Voting Phase Blog Tour

Bing is giving away up to $900,000 to schools in need through DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit website where public school teachers can post classroom projects that need funding.  Be one of the first 30,000 to vote for your favorite finalists each day and receive a $3 donation code to redeem for the classroom project of your choice!

Contest Overview:
  • Bing is awarding a quarter-million dollars in prize money divided among four schools in need, and your vote can make all the difference.
  • The entry with the most votes wins $100k, and 3 others will each win $50k.
  • The voting phase starts Friday, October 29 and runs through Sunday, November 7. America will be asked to vote on the 15 Our School Needs finalists as determined by the panel of judges. The winners will be announced Tuesday, November 9.
  • You can learn how to vote for the contest at www.bing.com/ourschoolneeds
A few of my favorite finalist videos:
  • Jessie Beck ES - It All Adds Up! - The video provides statistical information on their state relating to kids.  They also provide detailed information about what they would do with the money.
  • Wentzville Middle School - Fix Us With Fitness - I have to admit this video grossed me out a little bit.  A foul smell from the showers...yucky!  A very good reason why they need money to fix up their fitness areas.
  • St Gregory Great School - Class of 2020 - The World is in Your Hands - I'm highlighting this school because they are from my home state and they have a cute video.  I like the song they used to highlight their need for what Bing has!
With budget cuts taking place all across the country, teachers are feeling the pinch more and more each year.  How do they deal with it?  I have some friends who are teachers that reach into their own pockets to help provide for their classrooms.  Classroom supplies are being added to the school supply lists passing the cost along to the parents.  Parents can cope with this by shopping the sales and using coupons if possible.

Singer Josh Groban visits a local middle school in Queens, NY to drop off brand new musical instruments and participate in chorus class as part of the “Our School Needs” campaign kick-off.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Bing and received a gift card and DonorsChoose.org giving code to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Really Woolly Bible Stories - Review

Book Description: Favorite Bible stories presented with the beloved Really Woolly art style help little children discover that God is faithful and true and that Jesus, The Good Shepherd, loves them.

This case-bound padded board book from the Really Woolly® brand by DaySpring® makes it easy to share important stories from God’s Word with little children, while teaching them about God’s shepherd-like love for them. Bible stories include Creation, Noah, Abraham, Moses, the Ten Commandments, Joseph, Samson, Daniel, David and Goliath, Jonah, Jesus’ Birth, Jesus Loves the Little Children, Jesus Feeds 5,000, Jesus the Good Smaraitan, Jesus Walks on Water, Jesus’ Death & Resurrection, The Great Commission. Little ones will love the charming Really Woolly® illustrations.

Illustrations by Julie Sawyer Phillips. Stories retold by Bonnie Rickner Jensen.

Review:My husband and I have been talking about reading more Bible stories to our 3 year old.  He really can understand things now and loves to read, Really Woolly Bible Stories is a great resource.  Since it's a board book I don't mind letting my son and daughter play with it and look at the pictures on their own.  The stories are short and to the point, you can read one, two or all of them in one sitting.  I can see this book growing with my children as we ask them to discuss the stories more and more.  The page opposite the story includes a picture and where in the Bible you can find the message.  I think this is a great way to transition your child from story version to the written word.

The only thing I could see changing would be putting the stories in order of how they appear in the Bible.  Otherwise this book turned some of the most popular Bible stories into stories that ever the littlest of children can understand.

Buy it: You can purchase Really Woolly Bible Stories at Amazon and other book retailers.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Book Sneeze for review purposes.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.  This post may contain affiliate links.

And what does this mean for those he loves most? Find out in this story of wonder and a lesson in being content.

Featuring Meant To Be by Steven Curtis Chapman.

Release: October 2, 2010

Review: I have been purchasing Veggie Tales videos since before I had children of my own.  I liked the idea of having a video with a positive message behind it.  Veggie Tales videos have been a valuable resource for children's programs, quiet time and now my son watches them periodically at MOPS.  My kids have both been sick this week and we've been staying close to home.  I needed a little break so I asked them if they wanted to watch this new Veggie Tales DVD.  Little did I know that I too would get sucked into the the story of dancing vegetables and a message we all could learn something from.  Finding your purpose and trusting the plans God has for your life are tough issues but by giving your children biblical guidance you can help them on the path to A Meaningful Life!

If you have never heard of Veggie Tales before you can visit their website to see all the products available.  Most, if not all of the DVDs include bonus material adding to the value.  They also have a LIVE show touring now, click here to see if they will be stopping at a location near you.

Buy it: You can purchase It's a Meaningful Life DVD online or at a store near you.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this DVD to review with my children.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions.  This post may contain affiliate links.

Review: As a one income family we are always looking for ways to spend time together for less.  The Wanchai Ferry and Macaroni Grill Dinner Kits are an affordable solution for a date night in.  Over the last few weeks I was able to make both of the dinner kits I received.
  • Macaroni Grill Creamy Basil
  • Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken
Life has been pretty crazy for us lately so I wasn't able to make the dishes as a romantic night in with my husband but they provided me with easy and tasty meals when we desperately needed them.  Everything you need for the meal (except chicken) is included in the box.  As a busy mom this allowed me to pull them out of the cabinet without worrying whether or not I had all the ingredients.  I always have pre-cooked chicken strips on hand so that is what I used for both of the dinner kits.  I had no trouble following the easy directions using the pre-cooked chicken.  I did have to use a pot and a skillet for each meal.  I would love to see one that could all be made in the same pot.  You can add an additional side if you want but we filled up on the box by itself.

Have you seen these kits in your local grocery store?  If you have, you already know they are available at an affordable price, especially when you use a coupon!  I hope they continue to add additional varieties to the product lines.  Our family was able to eat from one box but my kids are little so it might be nice if family size kits were available.  All in all I recommend both the Wanchai Ferry and Macaroni Grill Dinner kits for date night and every night in between.

For kicks, here's a picture of my husband and I out together during our first year of marriage.

Buy it: You can purchase Wanchai Ferry and/or Macaroni Grill Dinner kits at a store near you.  CLICK HERE to print a coupon good for $1.50 off two packages of Wanchai Ferry and/or Macaroni Grill Dinner Kits.

Win it: 1 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win a Date Night prize pack that includes one Wanchai Ferry dry dinner kit, one Macaroni Grill dry dinner kit, and a $25 Visa gift card so you can create a magical date night at home.

Mandatory Entry:  Share with me one of your best tips for having a fun date night at home.

#PedialyteSingles Tetra Pak Shopping Trip

Pedialyte® is the #1 pediatrician recommended solution to help prevent dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting.

During episodes of diarrhea and vomiting, the body rapidly loses necessary electrolytes. Help your child feel better fast with Pedialyte. It's specially formulated to quickly replace lost fluids and electrolytes. And now, Pedialyte Liters with 7.8 mg/L added zinc helps replenish zinc loss due to diarrhea.

Pedialyte provides a precise balance of electrolytes, carbohydrates and water that children need - and contains less sugar than sports drinks, sweetened sodas or even juices.
                                                                                       http://pedialyte.com/

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a Pedialyte Singles Tetra Pak Shopping Trip with Collective Bias.  With little ones at home I like to keep products like this in the house just in case we find ourselves needing them.  I have seen Pedialyte in stores before so I thought it would be really easy to ding the single packs.  It was not.  I used the store locator and there was only a few in my area that carried this particular Pedialyte product.  I went to Walmart and had a hard time finding the product.  I checked the baby and health section.  When I couldn't find it easily I moved on to the next store.  As a busy Mom I like to run in and out of the store ecpecialy if I have the kids.  Thankfully Kids R Us (Toys R Us & Babies R Us together) is right across the street!

I have shopped at this store before so I knew where to look, the "market" area where all food and drinks are sold.  I did have to go down a few aisle before I found the Pedialyte Singles Tetra Pak.  They were on the top shelf at the very end of an aisle.  They only had one of the three flavors the product is avaialble in so I picked up the fruit punch pak.  The price at Kids R Us was less than $6 and I had a coupon so I felt it was an affordale product to purchase and keep on hand.  I think a few other people have found it at other stores for less so shop around and don't forget your coupon!

I like that the Pedialyte is packaged in single serving containers.  Have you ever purchased a big container and had to throw away a bunch because you didn't use it all?  The flavor choices of apple, cherry or fruit punch are bound to please most children.
The Pedialyte site has many helpful resources and links:
Buy it: Check out the store locator to see where you can purchase Pedialyte Singles in your area.  You can also print a $1.50 coupon HERE good on any Pedialyte product.

Change Your Smoke Detector Battery Plus a Giveaway!

The end of daylight-saving time is just around the corner on November 7.   For twenty-three years, Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and thousands of fire departments nationwide have worked together to encourage everyone to adopt the life-saving Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® habit of changing and testing smoke alarm batteries with each fall time change. This is so important because having a working smoke alarm can cut the risk of dying in reported home structure fires in half as they can often provide critical extra seconds needed to get out of your home safely. And even though 96% of American homes have smoke alarms, many do not have one that works because of missing or worn-out batteries.

Each year, Energizer donates 200,000 batteries to help local fire departments nationwide.  This year everyone has the chance to help double the donations, up to 400,000 batteries. Participation is easy. Visit the CYCCYB tab on the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page, and pledge to change your smoke alarm batteries, share the life-saving Change Your Clock Change Your Battery message with others and create your family’s home escape plan so you have an exit plan in place.  Each action will trigger a donation of batteries.

Win it: 1 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will with a First Alert smoke alarm, along with a 2-pack of 9volt Energizer® Max® batteries.

Mandatory Entry: Comment letting me know the last time you changed the batteries in your smoke detector.

National SIDS Awareness Month & a HALO Sleepsack Review

October is National SIDS Awareness Month.  As a company dedicated to raising awareness about safe sleep for babies.  During the month of October, HALO is donating $1 to SIDS Awareness for each new fan to join their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/halosleepsack.  You can also keep up with HALO on twitter.

HALO recently conducted a study into different attitudes to safe sleep across the generations.  The study revealed that parents and grandparents disagree on how to keep babies safe while they sleep.   According to the survey, grandparents are more likely than parents to place babies on their sides or stomachs to sleep, and are more likely to place unnecessary and potentially dangerous objects in babies’ cribs, increasing their risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and accidental suffocation.

HALO’s survey of more than 1,000 parents and grandparents revealed the following:
  • 58% of grandparents agreed that “babies are babies; what worked years ago when my children were babies is still fine today.” Conversely, 60% of parents disagreed with this opinion.
  • Parents are more likely to say that it’s best to place a baby on his or her back to sleep than grandparents (77% vs. 59%). Grandparents are more likely than parents to think a baby is safest sleeping on his or her side (21% vs. 12%) or stomach (16% vs. 8%).
  • Grandparents are also more likely to believe it is safe to have loose blankets (49% vs. 31% of parents) and a baby monitor (23% vs. 12%) in the crib with the baby.
  • 82% of parents say they swaddle their baby for sleep compared to less than half of grandparents who swaddle their grandchildren (46%).
These survey results show how important it is to make everyone aware of safe sleep practices.

Safe Sleep Practices:
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

Review: I love sleepsacks!  I remember hearing over and over again in our parenting classes not to put a blanket in your childs crib.  I wondered how in the world they would stay warm and the HALO sleepsack is the perfect solution.  Not only is it soft but it's easy to put on, take off for nighttime diaper changing and it comes in a variety of patterns and fabrics.  As the cold weather approaches I highly recommend a HALO sleepsack.  You can provide your child with warmth while keeping them safe.  These sleepsacks also say "back to sleep" on the front of them as a reminder to always place your baby to bed on their back.  HALO has tons of other great products so be sure and check them out.

Buy it: You can now pick up this featured style HALO sleepsack at Target stores.

Disclosure:  I received this product mentioned above for review purposes.  No other compensation was received.  All views expressed are my own opinions. This Product Was a Free Giveaway

Guest Post on Pix-O-Sphere

I am thrilled to be able to be a guest contributor on Stephanie's blog here at Coupon Clippin Mommy. It's great when we can find savings to help make our budget more comfortable and saving time is also so important for a mom blogger. For those of us who know what it takes to run a blog, we know how time consuming it is to find just the right photo for a blog post and as we search for hours for the photo that will help bring our articles to life, we realize that our time has flown by and the mac n' cheese is now burning on the stove. I don't know about you, but after searching for what seems like eternity for just the right photo, sometimes the photo isn't really as easily accesible as I thought. Photographers, even hobbyists, are becoming more strict on who gets to use their photos. I can understand this to an extent, because sometimes bloggers forget to add the credit, or they feel leery on adding a link to a photo member's page that has inappropriate stuff in there. My laptop is in the living space in my home and I have had to cover the screen countless times so my kids don't see what I saw. eek!

So how could we have a photo sharing site where I could have instant access to photos I can use on my blog? Where can I go to find a photo in a safe photo community where someone with good family values are actually moderating the site to help keep it clean and professional? And is there any way I can just snag that photo and host it in the same place so I can skip all the extra steps it takes to download, log in to a site, upload, grab the code, log into my blog, then paste it in? I'm really getting tired of dealing with all these various websites just to put a blog post up for tomorrow!

While I'm asking these questions, let dream build a bit, shall we? Can I also purchase stock photos if I need to? So in other words, is there a family friendly photo community, where I can host, share, and sell (or buy) stock photos all in one, save time, money, and connect with friends and help support them by using their photos? Ya! Now that would be the ticket! If I can connect with my mommy blogger friends who are also fabulous photographers, use their photos on my site and my readers could click on the photo and come back to discover we're all supporting one another in the blogosphere through a family friendly network..wow wouldn't THAT be great? And even better I don't have to worry about adding the credit, because it's already added into the photo with a watermark and the HTML is all set up for me! Could this be too good to be true? A site that offers all that?

Well my dear bloggy friends, there IS such a place! After several years in the blogosphere, my husband sat down with me one night to see what blogging was all about. I showed him everything it takes to create a blog post that would be relevent to my readers. As I walked him through all the steps it took, he saw how much time was being stolen from me and my family. I told him this, "Well if we could (insert everything I just told you) then it would be SO much better, save time, and provide more support in the blogosphere." He was hooked! He began having private meetings with friends and business partners and within no time at all we had our team rallied together to bring it to pass. We hired a developer team, filed our Trademark and Copyright and here we are, Pix-O-Sphere...The Family Friendly Photo Community where you can do all of the above and so much more to come!

Not Just for Halloween Anymore: Creating an Anytime Dress Up Trunk for Kids

‘Tis the season for dressing up and deciding on a costume for Halloween parades and trick-or-treat nights.  In my house, the process usually starts right along with the new school year.  Something about the word “September” reminds my kids that October 31st is right around the corner (or, still 60 days away if I’m feeling snarky) and gets them into holiday mode.  Halloween has become a favorite time of year for all of us in my household—there is so much excitement in the possibilities of costuming and taking on temporary personas.

Last year, it struck me when the last trick-or-treater had departed that just as the 25lbs of candy would last us for a while, so too could the dress-up fun.  We started a costume trunk (aka: fashion wardrobe) that became the go-to center for playdates, snow days, and year-round anytime fun.  If your kids are anything like mine and love to use their imaginations and play pretend, here are a few ideas to get your dress-up divas started:

Costume Wear
Start off with the kids’ costumes from Halloween, of course.  Wait until mid-November, then check out the 75% off sales at stores like Target.  Last year, I got incredible, brand-new mermaid, princess, and fairy costumes for $5 each.  Though we are an all-girl household, there are always boy pals who come to play, so we made sure to add items that everyone could enjoy—fireman hats, cowboy boots, and pirate eye patches.

Bridesmaid Dresses and Hawaiian Shirts
Who said you would never have another use for that fuchsia bridesmaid dress?  Check the back of your closet (and raid your husband’s as well) for items that will give you much-needed space and your kids priceless “new” items for their collection.  Finally!  A good use for your shoulder-padded jackets and your husband’s widest ties.

Baubles and Bangles
This is where the fun really begins.  The possibilities are endless for what children can create out of scarves, costume jewelry, hats, shawls, purses, backpacks, bandanas, headbands, slippers, worn-out heels, vests, nightgowns, wigs, and gloves.  My daughter made the most hilarious wig from curly ribbon and an old shower cap. Watch your kids’ imaginations blossom as they find creative and amusing costuming uses for everyday items!

If you have any unused mirrors around the house, consider setting one up for the kids so that they can see their morphing styles and watch themselves walk the runway.  Their Halloween-inspired costume trunk is sure to become a center of imagination, creativity, and high-fashion year-round.

Look What The Rusted Chain Sent me for #Relevant10

About: Beki Hastings began making custom jewelry in 2003. Since that time, her products have been featured in various parenting magazines, Pediped shoe advertisements, Law and Order Criminal Intent, and are sold in local upscale boutiques and internationally.

Her designs feature the best of rustic elegance and trendy looks, with the end result being quality jewelry that will look as new and fresh years from now as it does today. Each piece is custom made using sterling silver, natural stones, and the finest components.

My Thoughts: I was so excited when this box arrived and even more excited when I saw the finished product.  I have been wearing the necklace since it arrived and I love it!  The cross design on the necklace and the word faith inscribed encompass so much and in such a beautiful piece of art work.  If you haven't had the chance to check out The Rusted Chain head on over.  You will find hand stamped necklaces, earrings, bracelets, Christian jewelry and items for men!

You can keep up with The Rusted Chain on her blog, Etsy shop, twitter and facebook.

Powermat Home and Office Mat Review & Giveaway

How it Works: Enjoying the freedom and convenience of charging without plugging and unplugging and the tangle of wires is simple!  Upgrade your favorite gear with a Powermat Receiver or use the Powercube Universal Receiver. The Powercube works with hundreds of devices and is the perfect accessory for your Powermat.  Then choose a Mat. With many Mats to choose from, you can select the one that is right for your charging needs.  Charging your favorite devices is now as easy as setting them down!

Review: I recently had the opportunity to try out some Powermat USA products.
  • Powermat Home & Office Mat- Wirelessly charge up to three Powermat-enabled devices at the same time. Includes mat, Powercube and 8 Powercube tips which will charge nearly all mobile devices.
  • Receiver Case for iPod touch™- Powermat enable your iPod touch® with this sleek protective case
  • Dock for iPod and iPhone- Universal docking solution for Apple devices
I have to say I love this product and it's something I use everyday.  Recently my husband was looking all over the place for his phone charger.  If we don't have every outlet filled with power cords, we can't find them.  The powermat is the perfect solution for families with multiple phones/other devices that need charging.  I will admit I was most excited about the ability to charge my ipod without having to turn on my computer.  I have used both the case and the docking system for my ipod touch.  Since I was in the market for a new case I have used this product the most.  I have also used the powercube to charge my phone.

You can charge up to three devices at a time using the home and office mat.  I have found that my ipod touch charges faster using the mat versus plugging it into the computer.  My husband was quick to grab his ipod and phone to test out the powermat for himself.  I think he's sold.

The powermat brings all your cords to one central location and uses just one outlet.  We have the powermat sitting on our kitchen counter and it's in use frequently.  Another great feature is that you can wrap the cord around the adapter so you don't have lots of dangling wires.  The power mat also travels well.  Last week I took it on a road trip and worked great, with two ipods and three phones I only had to take 1 charger.  In today's digital age many families had multiple phones making the Home and Office Mat perfect for everyone!

Buy it: You can purchase Powermat products online or at a retail store near you.

Win it: 1 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win the Home and Office Mat with up to three receivers!
