Scripture on plaque: Psalm 139:34

Review: Have you ever felt down in the dumps or wondered what your purpose was?  Often times we just need a little bit of encouragement to get us through tough times.  DaySpring has a great selection of home decor pieces in the DaySpring Online Store that will remind you daily how special you are.  The plaque I received for review has the following message on it: I am a Masterpiece!  How true this is for all of us but it's hard to accept.  We are a masterpiece created in God's image.  He made us who we are and has a special plan for our lives.

I have gone back and forth about where I wanted to showcase my plaque.  One of the great things about the piece is you can easily move it anywhere you want and it doesn't require hammering a nail!  I decided for the time being I was going to put the plaque up in my craft space.  This is the space were I create masterpieces and the plaque is a great reminder of who gave me the gifts I have.  The colors pop with the walls making it a great addition to the room.

Is there someone in your life that needs a little encouragement?  Priced at only $13 the Masterpiece Wooden Plaque is a great way to show someone you care.  Maybe you need to pick one up for yourself to serve as a reminder that you are a masterpiece.

Operation: Cars 2 Edition Game Review

Just in time for the release of Disney/Pixar’s “Cars 2” on June 24! Lightning McQueen, Mater and the gang are back and starring in your favorite family games of Operation, Sorry! Sliders, Monopoly and more.
In Operation: Cars 2 Edition, Mater is carrying some extra junk and his engine is starting to clunk! Put on your mechanic hat and help fix his busted grill and gear in Operation: Cars 2 Edition. Mater can’t go on his next adventure with all of that rattling, so grab the tweezers and get to work! Repair Mater’s crazy quirks, such as Leaky Oil, Spare Tire and Tow Jam, and be careful not to touch the sides as you motor to the finish line.

Bump and race your way to victory in the “Cars 2” World Grand Prix! Bring the racing experience of the movieto life with Sorry! Sliders: Cars 2 Edition, the game of sweet revenge. Customize your racetrack, from a circular course to a track full of twists and turns, and race around the world! Speed through Radiator Springs, Tokyo, London and more, and try to bump opponents back to “Start” while trying to avoid oil spills, traffic cones, and radiation spaces.

Finally, everyone’s favorite property-trading game, Monopoly, gets a tune up – “Cars 2”style! Monopoly: Cars 2 Edition is totally new and unlike any Monopoly game seen before! The game board has been transformed into a round racetrack and Lightning McQueen now serves as the game dice. This child-friendly edition of Monopoly gives real estate moguls-in-training a chance to face off and race to the finish line by outsmarting and out-bidding opponents.

Review: I remember playing Operation as a child so I was excited to share this game with my children.  I thought the Cars edition would be a little more exciting for them.  The game is the same concept as the original but offers added fun when you throw in the voice of Mater and cool car parts.  We haven't gotten into the money or other cards that came with the game.  I'm working on one step at a time.  I think this game can teach my children a valuable lesson "patience."  It takes lots of patience and some strategy to get the pieces out of their spots without touching the side.

I can't tell you how many times I had to say "be sure you don't touch the metal."  I think they thought it was more fun to hear Mater than to actually play the game correctly.  It's definitely a game our family can play together and one that the kids will grow into and gradually begin to play correctly.

If your looking for a birthday gift or need something to entertain the kids when the weather is too hot; check out these great new games from Hasbro.  They are sure to make the Cars 2 fan in your life smile!

Buy it: You can purchase Operation: Cars 2 Edition online or at a retailer near you.

Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ Review

Product Description: Smartfish Introduces anti-gravity comfort for your computer mouse— the Whirl™ Mini's patented ErgoMotion™ pivot system makes your mouse feel like it's "floating on air!"

The Only Mouse with Gravity Defying Comfort Pivot Technology.

For laptop use, it’s time to get rid of that old-fashioned “miniature mouse” and upgrade to the comfort of the Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ -- the world’s first truly ergonomic compact mouse. No other portable mouse provides the fluid, air-like comfort of the patented ErgoMotion™ pivot system.

You can finally say goodbye to aches and pains while using a computer mouse. Whether you are right- or left-handed, you can enjoy the unique on-the-go experience of our Award Winning computer mouse that experts from MacWorld Magazine, PC World, GQ Magazine, Good Housekeeping and many, many more all agree will forever change your mousing experience!

The perfectly portable Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ combines the remarkably natural comfort of the patented ErgoMotion™ pivot system with the three most sought-after computer mouse features: Up to 800-dpi hi-def laser sensitivity, 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity and extra long battery life.

The ErgoMotion™ pivot system reduces your risk of Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) by adding motion! The magic of the function is how it naturally adapts to your hand motion rather than the other way around! While all other computer mice require your hand and wrist to remain in a fixed position, the Whirl™ Mini pivots naturally as you move, automatically changing it’s angle infinitely to match your wrist and hand. The mouse will lean, swivel or pivot with your movement so your hand and wrist are never in a fixed position, creating the most comfortable and healthy mousing experience ever.

Review: When I got my laptop last year one of the first purchases I made was a wireless mouse.  I would say I use a mouse 90% of the time I am using my laptop.  I had a few problems with it so when I learned about the Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ I was excited to give it a try.  The first thing I noticed was it took no time at all for my computer to recognize the mouse.  It has started working immediately each time I've used it.  This is very different from the last mouse I had which wasn't consistently recognized by my computer.

I have used the Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ on a variety of surfaces with no trouble at all.  The ErgoMotion feature is awesome.  I am on my compute a lot and this had really helped to make using the mouse smooth and easy.  The 2.4GHz nano-tranceiver is a nice compact size.  It doesn't stick out and I can plug a usb cable in the slot right next to it with no problem.  The battery compartment has a storage place for the nano-tranceiver so you can take the mouse with you and keep it all together.

If you're in the market for a wireless mouse I recommend checking out the Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™.  You can purchase this mouse in a variety of sleek colors.  Pick one up for the office and you'll want to bring it home at night!

Buy it: You can purchase the Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ online at Smartfish Technologies.

Gluten Free Rice Krispies Treats = Yummy! #glutenfree

A few weeks ago I read a blog review on the new gluten free Rice Krispies.  I knew they were coming out sometime in June so I looked every time I went to the store.  On one recent trip to Walmart I found them!  I was super excited to see they were the same price as regular rice krispies and there was a $1/2 coupon on the box.  I also picked up some walmart brand marshmellows which are naturally gluten free.
My daughter has been enjoying the Rice Krispies for breakfast but I really wanted to introduce her to Rice Krispies treats.  My son helped me make them and we all enjoyed them.  The gluten free version is just as addicting as the regular marshmallow treats.  I know this is something I will be buying again.

What does your work space look like?

Having a dedicated office space is a dream of mine.  I would like a room where I can close the door and the kids don't go in and play with everything.  Right now we have a small built in office desk in the kitchen.  It's not very practical as I like to keep is clutter free when guests come over.  We also have a roll top desk, where else but in the dining room!  I originally had envisioned that the kitchen desk would be for our families files and information and I would use the desk in the dining room for information related to the blog.  Needless to say we've been living here for 4 months and I have yet to find the time to organize either one of the desks.

I would eventually like to have a  L-shaped desk.  I think this style gives lots of room and can even allow for multiple people to be working at once.  In our current house we really don't have a corner that this would work in but maybe someday.

A corner desk would provide the most work space per dollar.  This is a great alternative if you are limited on space.  I could see adding a white one in our bedroom.  This style would also work well in the kids rooms when they are old enough to be doing school work.

What does your work space look like?  Maybe your content with your laptop sitting in bed or enjoying the sun working away on the back patio.  I need a space where I can keep all my supplies together and keep the kids from getting into everything.

Potty Training Woes

I decided it was finally time.  After all the procrastinating I decided it was all or nothing in the potty training game.  We didn't have anything on the calendar for this week so I thought it was the perfect time to do it.  I've been using candy as rewards method and it's been working pretty well.  If he has an accident free day he gets a new Cars 2 car (they are pretty cheap at Kroger this week)!  I think one of the pros I am finding is that he really does get it.  The only accidents he's had are when he gets to playing or watching sometime and doesn't want to take the time away from it.

I haven't left the house with the kids ALL week!  Thank goodness I was able to get away a few nights or I would be going crazy!  Today was a huge success so we may venture out tomorrow.  There is no turning back now.  I know I will be happy about it when I'm not buying diapers for him anymore.

What are your potty training tips and tricks?  Did you offer treats or use a sticker system?

Hope Harris Cousins Jamboree CD Review & Giveaway

About: With a 2011 Parents’ Choice® Silver Honor Award for her new CD Cousins Jamboree proudly in hand, independent children’s musician Hope Harris is all set to share her music with the world!  Rocking songs, whimsical songs, heartfelt songs, and soon-to-be sing-along-songs combine on this 16-track album of Hope Harris originals and arrangements, each one set with imagination, style, and country warmth.

Beautifully produced by the man who co-produces the Dan Zanes family albums, Rob Friedman, Cousins Jamboree cannot help but engage listeners from the get-go, in large part due to the open friendliness and musical purity of Hope Harris’s inviting voice.  Hope relies on the quality of her singing to carry the song and compliments her young listeners by assuming they are intelligent enough to appreciate music that doesn’t rely upon gimmicks.  In creating Cousins Jamboree, Hope’s wish has been to create a down-home, good-times celebration showcasing country, swing, jazz, blues, ‘50s rock & roll, folk, and show-tune sounds — a montage of American music — while at the same time reminding children that being kind to one another, looking out for friends, and behaving with good manners is a happy way to live.

A graduate of the University of Virginia and, later, the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre, Hope Harris spent many years living and performing in NYC, appearing both on and off Broadway, in regional and stock productions across the country, and even doing stints at venues like Nashville’s famed Bluebird Café.  A crowning success in the kids’ realm was her starring appearance, for three years running, as “Baker Bobbie” for the Park Slope, Brooklyn, Chocolate Chip Chamber Music Series, for which she is also a contributing scriptwriter.   Hope now lives with her family in Richmond, VA but returns often to NYC to perform.

Review: I was excited when I read that Hope Harris was a local artist.  The kids and I had a great time listening to her newest CD Cousins Jamboree.  The Five Little Monkeys song has to be one of our favorites.  This version gives a fresh spin on a song my children love.

Song List

1. Howdy Hello
2. Cousins Jamboree
3. Five Little Monkeys
4. Hang On Friend
5. Gelbart Dufrain
6. Down In the Valley
7. I Love Apples
8. I Can Do It
9. Eddie the Otter
10. Good Manners
11. I Am An Alien
12. Seatbelt Buckled
13. Babysitter
14. A Little Bit Afraid
15. Bright Moon, Bright Sun
16. Holcomb Rock Road
I found this CD to be an easy listen.  The songs tell interesting stories that will grab your child's attention and keep them interested until the end!  The upbeat music had the kids and I moving to the beat.  You can listen to previews of all the songs on Hope Harris's website.

10 time-saving tips to make your life as a busy mom easier

Having two toddlers can be very challenging at times.  What I struggle with most is getting things done around the house and preparing meals in a timely manner.  I have learned a few things throughout the past few years and I hope some of them might help other busy moms save a little bit of time (and sanity).

Coupon Clippin' Mommy's 10 time-saving tips to make your life as a busy mom easier
  1. Meal Plan- I have just recently started doing this.  I was spending too much time deciding what we were going to have for dinner and then running to the store for one or two things.  Going to the store with my children is a time sucker for me.  Usually on friday night I will take inventory of what we have on hand and how much money is left in the food budget.  I then plan meals accordingly.  This allows me to do one big grocery run sans kids and I know what we're going to eat every day.
  2. Cook in bulk-I also like to cook up a lot of beef or chicken and freeze the leftovers.  Since I am already cooking this doesn't add any extra time.  I freeze it and when I want to use it, it's ready in minutes so waiting for it to brown and getting rid of the grease etc.  Chicken strips are a great lunch for my daughter and I can just zap them in the microwave and lunch is served.
  3. Pack it up (the night before): With all the pool trips and play dates the summer months bring I have found that packing our bags the night before saves me lots of time.  In the evenings I don't have the distraction of the kids so I can get this task done much quicker and I don't run the risk of not being able to find something the morning of.
  4. Set a timer: Whether its taking a nap, cleaning the bathrooms or browsing the internet we can all get wrapped up in what we are doing and realize that we didn't get to other things on our list.  Set a timer for 15 minutes for most tasks and when it goes off switch to something else.
  5. Enlist the help of others: I know this may seem like a no brainer but we can't do it alone.  With two kids bedtime routines can take twice as long.  Have your husband help or if grandparents live nearby maybe they can come by once a week and tuck the kids in.  Hire a mother's helper for a few hours a week (young person who will work for less than a babysitter).  This is great for the helper, your children and you.
  6. Stay at home: Schedule play dates for your house instead of venturing out with the kids.  This can easily give you an extra hour.  Only schedule one or two a week as to not over schedule yourself of the kids.
  7. Get lots of Moms together: One thing I struggle with is there are so many Moms (and their kids) that we want to spend time with.  Most moms like to meet new people so why not have all of them meet up at a park, your house or a restaurant with a play place?  Instead of stressing out about scheduling 5 play dates you have one.  Maybe the other moms strike up some great conversations too!
  8. Write it Down: Use a day planner, calendar, smartphone app or piece of paper it doesn't matter; write down the chores you do each week and what days you want to do them.  This way you won't forget when you last dusted and you won't mop the floors three times a week because you couldn't remember if you had done it.  Mommy brain gets me all the time.  This way I also remember to do some of those cleaning tasks I push to the back of my mind.
  9. Leave the kids at home: We all know it's easier to shop without the kids.  If you can, leave them at home.  I try to plan all of my errands for one night during the week.  Even if it means going out after the kids are in bed (stores are much slower then anyways).  If I must take the kids I bring plenty of entertainment so I can get through the trip with no added purchases and as little crying as possible.
  10. Get enough sleep: Do you ever stay up really late watching tv or surfing the internet only to not function the next day?  I'm guilty of this!  On days where I don't get enough sleep I drag all day long and hardly get anything accomplished wasting time and adding lots of stress.  Learn how much sleep your body needs and aim to get that every night.
These are just a few things that have helped me to save a little bit of time and remain sane (on most days).  I don't do them all well and I don't do them all the time.  When I do I have found that things are a little less crazy and I am much happier.  What do you do to make your life a little easier?

Disclosure: I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Starbucks blogging program, for a gift card worth $30. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

DIY: Menu Planner/Wipe Off Board

I recently came across this super cute wipe off weekly menu board on Pinterest.  I set out on a mission to make one for myself.  I have high hopes that it will keep me more organized and limit our eating/ordering out.

I am in the process of another BIG DIY project so I wanted to bring in some of the fabric I am using for that.  Instead of scrapbook paper as a background in my frame I used fabric.  I went back and forth on whether or not to cut the vinyl letters out on my cricut machine.  In the end I decided to write out the words with a dry erase marker.  This way I can use it as a wipe off board if I want.
What do you think?  I don't think it's too busy but if I end up not liking it I can always change the background.

ebeanstalk.com a One Stop Toy Shop

A you looking for an online site that provides toys for all ages?  I may have found the site for you.  Some of my favorite things about ebeanstalk.com are the easy searching, wide variety of toys and expert advice.  Using this site you can easily search by gender, age, top sellers or brands.  This is great when you are stuck in a rut and can't think of the perfect gift to give.  I know I have a hard time picking out gifts for older children because I haven't been through that yet.  With the toy by age feature I am able to select the age range, pick a gender or see the best sellers in that category!  Just recently I had to pick out a gift for a 1 year old; I would have benefitted from the search features on this site as there are so many new toys out.

As a parent of two children with mounds of toys that fall apart or have no educational value I do think it's good to see a toys site offering best selling learning toys.  While I know it's fun to have the toys that make lots of noise and require lots of batteries sometimes it's nice to go back to the simple toys that will teach children how to count etc.  I can easily pick those using the numbers, games, shapes toys or pretend play.

I found most of the prices to be reasonable and free shipping is offered on orders of $75 or more.  There is also the clearance section which is where I head anytime I visit a site.  You never know when you will find a hot deal.  You can send e-gift cards which are great when you're in a pinch and left someone off your shopping list; or you just can't decide what to get.  There really is a large amount of toys available through ebeanstalk.com.  I encourage you to go check it out; especially if you need a little toy buying guidance.

Check out this hand Fly or Drive Calculator

A new, first-of-its-kind comparison calculator, created by the budget and coupon folks at BeFrugal.com, helps travelers take the mystery out of deciding whether to fly or drive.

Travelers input the location and date details for their trip, then the Fly or Drive Calculator does the rest — comparing the cost and time of traveling by auto or plane.

When weighing differences between flying and driving, the new Fly or Drive Calculator helps travelers make educated decisions on facts like:
  • distance in miles
  • number of travelers
  • vehicle type
  • time it will take to reach a destination

Drop Dead Diva Season 3 Premiere- June 19th

ABOUT DROP DEAD DIVA
In the first season of Drop Dead Diva, beautiful-but-vapid model wannabe Deb, suddenly finds herself in front of Heaven’s gatekeeper, Fred (Feldman), following a fatal car crash.  Outraged by her sudden demise, she attempts to persuade Fred to return her to her shallow existence but is accidentally relegated to the body of the recently deceased Jane Bingum (Elliott).  An intelligent, thoughtful and plus-size attorney with a loyal assistant, Teri (Cho), Jane has always lived in the shadow of her colleagues whereas Deb has always relied on her external beauty.  By a twist of fate and a bolt of divine intervention, Deb must come to terms with inhabiting Jane’s curvier frame and learn to reconcile her beauty queen ways with her brilliant, new mind.

At the close of Drop Dead Diva’s second season, Jane is left speechless when following a car accident, Grayson recognizes her as Deb before falling into a coma.  As she anxiously waits for him to wake, Jane finds herself struggling with her desire to reveal who she is, despite warnings from Fred.  Season three of Lifetime Television’s hit series Drop Dead Diva will premiere Sunday, June 19, 2011, at 9pm ET/PT.

My Thoughts: I was excited to learn that Drop Dead Diva would be back for another season.  With a mixture of humor and seriousness, this show keeps my attention every time I watch.  This season starts with a band and appears that is won't disappoint the viewers.  Just when I needed a reprieve from the daily rhythm, Drop Dead Diva is back; I'll be watching, will you?

Here, Home, Hope by Kaira Rouda - Book Review

Book Description: Here, Home, Hope by author Kaira Rouda is the fictional story of one woman's courageous journey through midlife crisis and personal reinvention - all told with a sense of heart and humor.
Kelly Mills Johnson becomes restless in her thirty-ninth year. An appetite for more forces her to take stock of her ordinary middle-American existence and her neighbors’ seemingly perfect lives. Her marriage to a successful attorney has settled into a comfortable routine, and being the mother of two adorable sons has been rewarding but exhausting. Meanwhile, Kelly’s own passions lie wasted. She eyes with envy the lives of her two best friends, Kathryn and Charlotte, both beautiful, successful businesswomen who seem to have it all. Kelly takes charge of her life, devising a midlife makeover plan.
Here, Home, Hope will surely appeal to readers of chick lit and other women’s fiction titles who are ready to transition into something new in their own life.

Review: Are you on the hunt for the perfect book to curl up on the couch with or read while catching some rays?  Maybe need something that will draw you in and allow you to escape reality if only for a few hundred pages.  Here, Home, Hope was that book for me.  No I didn't get to read it while relaxing at the beach...but I did take advantage of every moment the kids were playing to read it.

I enjoyed getting to know Kelly; I can see myself in her shoes a few years from now.  When the kids are busy with other things and have school to worry about what will I do with my time?  She is a list maker and keeps post it reminders all over her house with things she wants to remember or accomplish.  I don't have post its because my children would pull them off of everything but I do have lists; lists for everything!

It was encouraging to see all the relationships come full circle.  Like life, it is always sad to see families torn apart.  I like how the author use each of the bad situations to grow the characters and help them to learn their new purpose.  Throughout the book people were placed in each other lives for the better.  It helped me to think about those close friends in my life and how I am connecting/not connecting with them and how that can be better.

Here, Home, Hope is a great addition to your summer reading list.  Keep up with Kaira Rouda on facebook and twitter.

Buy it: You can purchase Here, Home, Hope online or at a book retailer near you.
