Back-to-School WAT-AAH! Challenge

Last year I took the WAT-AAH! challenge with my son and he really did choose the WAT-AAH! over juice.  This year I decided I would test out my daughter.  She loves juice and I know it's not great for her to be drinking so much of it.  It would be wonderful if we could find a replacement that she enjoyed drinking.

Before I let you know the results of our home challenge I want to say I love the small size bottles.  They are perfect for lunches, snacks and on the go drinks.  Did my daughter choose water or juice?

video
Hmm...she choose applesauce...I guess that's better than juice.  Later on when she was thirsty she did try the WAT-AAH! and did not throw it or ask for something else.  I will be giving both of my kids WAT-AAH! again. While the official Back-to-School WAT-AAH! Challenge ends today you can still make the switch at your house.  CLICK HERE to see where WAT-AAH! is available near you.  Keep up with WAT-AAH! on Twitter and Facebook  for more great promotions.

Review: The Little Drummer Boy DVD offers parents and loved ones a fun way to share the story of Jesus' birth.  The story starts off in a modern day family.  The Grandpa finds a way to relate the story of the little drummer boy to his Grandson who loves to play the drums.  This is the first step in sharing any story with young children.  You need to draw them in and share with them how they can relate.  The sheep, donkey and camel in this DVD are super cute and had me and the kids smiling!

I love listening to Christmas music.  I could probably listen to it all year round.  My all time favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night.  It was very cute to hear some of the Christmas songs in Veggie Tales voices!  There are also some top name recording artists lending their voices to make this CD a wonderful way to get you in the holiday spirit.

If you're looking for some new Christmas music to share with your children or a new way to teach the true meaning of Christmas than visit Veggie Tales and check out these great new products.

Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® Smoke Alarm Giveaway!

The end of daylight-saving time is just around the corner on November 6th.   For twenty-four years, Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and thousands of fire departments nationwide have worked together to encourage everyone to adopt the life-saving Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® habit of changing and testing smoke alarm batteries with each fall time change. This is so important because having a working smoke alarm can cut the risk of dying in reported home structure fires in half as they can often provide critical extra seconds needed to get out of your home safely. And even though 96% of American homes have smoke alarms, many do not have one that works because of missing or worn-out batteries.

Through November 6th, Energizer is inviting parents across the country to join the Energizer Bunny® Brigade on Facebook for a chance to win free smoke alarms and batteries for their home or a grand prize of a home fire safety makeover. It’s a fun way to get people thinking about an important topic; home fire safety and sharing positivity within their communities.

Win it: 2 lucky Coupon Clippin' Mommy readers will each win a smoke alarm equipped with Energizer batteries.

Mandatory Entry: Comment letting me know the last time you changed the batteries in your smoke alarm.
Please make sure if your email address is not visible in your blogger profile you leave one in your initial entry!

Boar’s Head has an extensive line of beef and pork frankfurters, sausage and bratwursts as well as the right condiments including a variety of mustards, sauerkraut and horseradish.

Try these recipes to spice up your next tailgate.  All of Boar’s Heads products contain no fillers, gluten, artificial flavors, colors or trans fats and their line of MVP mustards are a guaranteed touchdown.

Spicy Potato Skins
·         8 slices Boar’s Head Bacon
·         8 oz. Boar’s Head Monterey Jack Cheese with Jalapeno, Shredded
·         ½ cup Green Onion, sliced
·          ½ cup Sour Cream
·         ½ tsp Black Pepper
·         ½ tsp Kosher Salt
·         3 Medium Potatoes, baking

Cook bacon until crispy. Scrub potatoes thoroughly, and bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour or until done. Allow potatoes to cool to the touch. Cut in half lengthwise. Carefully scoop the pulp leaving ¼ inch shell. Sprinkle the potato with salt and pepper. Add crumbled bacon and green onions, top off with cheese. Place potato skins on baking sheet and place under broiler until cheese melts. Potato skins may be served with sour cream, if desired. Yields 6 halves.

Hot Italian

·         2 oz. Boar’s Head Genoa Salami, thinly sliced
·         2 oz.  Boar’s Head Hot Cooked Capocollo, thinly sliced
·         2 oz.  Boar’s Head Mortadella, thinly sliced
·          1 oz. Boar’s Head Provolone Cheese, thinly sliced
·         1 oz. Red onion, sliced
·         3 Slices Tomato

·         2 Slices Multi-Grain bread

Butter one side of each piece of bread and grill until golden brown. Add ingredients in the following order: Mayonnaise, Tomato, Mortadella, Salami, Capocollo, Provolone, Onion, Crown with second slice of bread.

From the Archives: You've been Sentenced Board Game Review

Order in time for the holidays!  Now available at Toys R Us and Kohl’s this year in addition to Barnes & Noble and hundreds of independent stores, catalogs and websites

Product Description: The latest in the evolution of games, “You've been Sentenced!” is the first game in history to really turn making sentences into a very funny, playable, and challenging game. Using a unique word deck of pentagon shaped cards containing conjugations of funny words, famous names from throughout history, familiar places, and wild cards, players have to make grammatically correct and justifiable sentences.

Review:The jury is unanimous on how much fun this game is.  We have played it a few times and it always involves lots of laughter.  The game is easy for adults and children alike to play.  For children (8 and up) this game is a great way to work on sentence structure and teach them how there are different forms of words and how they are used in a sentence.  You've Been Sentenced allows all players to use their creativity and makes for great family fun.

How to play: Each player is given 10 cards and must use them to make a sentence.  Points are earned based on how many words you use and how many points they are worth.  Once a player is confident in their sentence they flip the hour class and all the other players must complete their sentences before time runs out.  After everyone is done the jury is out and players get to vote on whether or not a sentence should count.

Since there is judging at the end of the round you may want to specify whether or not you are looking for serious grammatically correct sentences or if players can use their imagination and you are looking for sentences that make sense but might not technically be considered a proper sentence.  With so many words, the possibilities are endless.  You can even purchase add on packs for more words and even better sentences!  This game is great for parties, I can see how this game could get very competitive and entertaining.  My husband didn't like my sentences too much, kept telling me they weren't actually sentences or something crazy like that!  You can even play online  Be sure to follow McNeill Designs on twitter to keep up with news and announcements.

Buy it: You can purchase You've been Sentenced on Amazon, McNeill Designs website or at a retailer near you.

Disclosure: I received the product mentioned above for review purposes.  No other compensation was received.  The thoughts and opinions here are my own.  I will be receiving additional games for this repost.

Christmas Ornaments.com Review

Over 2200 ornaments to choose from

About: This year we celebrate our 29th year in the business of selling Christmas decorations and gifts. It’s also our 13th year for our sister site, www.OrnamentShop.com, the Internet’s number one selling personalized Christmas ornament site. This combination of experience and success gives us the background necessary to create for you another exciting ornament shopping experience, www.ChristmasOrnaments.com.

Review: I am more than excited about the upcoming holiday season.  I love the look of a Christmas tree lights shining through the window.  With our new house we have to come up with the perfect location for the tree and all our other decorations!  What makes your Christmas tree special?  To me it's the ornaments hanging from the branches.  There is a story behind each one; whether it's a travel ornament or a hobby ornament showcasing our families likes.  I used the handy search box on the site to see what ornaments my family might like.  I found some Dora, Abby Cadabby and dinosaur ornaments that the kids would love.  In the end I decided on the Baby Wreath Blue.
Product Description: Your new bundle of boy is the prince of your castle and rules the roost even though he is still a pint sized tot. His first Christmas is an exciting one to remember and you are grateful for the blessing he has brought into your home.

The ornament lives up to the pictures and description on the site.  It was a little bit bigger than I thought it would be but I didn't mind that.  I really like all the intricate details and great colors.  The back is all white so you can easily use a permanent marker and write your child's name and birth date.  I'm not a huge fan of the traditional ornament hooks so I like that the Baby Wreath Blue comes with a ribbon for hanging.

My sons favorite decorations during the holidays are snowglobes!  I think he could sit there all day turning it over and then watching the snow fall.  With over 25 choices at Christmas Ornaments.com I'm sure there is one he would like.  There are also some great tips and tricks for the holidays including, Christmas outfits for the dog.  My pooch would look very festive but I'm not sure she would wear an outfit for very long.

You can keep up with OrnamentShop.com on Facebook.

Buy it: You can purchase a wide variety of ornaments online at Christmas Ornaments.com.

Review: Having a child with special dietary needs can make snack time tricky.  Many of the pre-packaged crackers and cookies are off limits for my daughter.  We spend a lot of time in the car, at play dates or other places away from home.  With our busy schedule I need to have some treats in the pantry that are easy for everyone to eat on the go.
We received the Surf Sweets Gummy Bears and Sour Berry Bears.  They are a huge hit with both kids and myself.  In fact the gummy bears are already gone!  The gummy bears had a great natural flavor, you won't be able to stop at just one.  The Sour Berry Bears are not as sour as I was anticipating which is good because I'm not sure the kids would have liked too much sour.  Surf Sweets has come up with just the right combination of sour and sweet in this yummy product.  When I think of gummy bears I usually consider them a candy but the Surf Sweets gummy bears don't leave me feeling guilty for feeding the kids candy!

The .9oz packages are the perfect size to satisfy your sweet tooth.  Of course we love these snacks because they are gluten free and yummy.  When I can find a special treat that both my children like I've struck gold.

Buy it: You can purchase these great Surf Sweets snacks and other treats online or at a retailer near you.

Win it: 1 Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win a package full of assorted Surf Sweets candies and other fun goodies.

Review: I like to label just about everything.  It's a great way to keep things organized.  I haven't had a whole lot of time to keep up with this lately and the Make+Print Your Own Stickers Kit arrived just as things were getting out of control.  I am currently working on some labels for my daughters toy bins.  Maybe if I start her organizing early it will stick...

I have also created name tags using this kit.  They were easy to make and I liked that I could change the clip art, colors and name for each of the stickers.  I like that the program is directly on their website so no downloading any new software to your computer.  There is a large variety or clip art including Dora the Explorer, Max & Ruby, Coco Cola and Ford.  You can even upload your own image to the stickers.  If you get started on your stickers and don't have time to finish or maybe you want to print a duplicate set a few days later your work will be saved directly on the site.

About: The 8 oz. Baby Lotion and 8 oz. 2-in-1 Conditioning Shampoo/Baby Wash are both certified organic, and made of the finest ingredients, including coconut oil, aloe vera, and shea butter, all gently scented with soothing almond and lavender.

Why Organic? Organic means grown without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, making products healthier for both the environment and farmers. With products by ORGANICALLY GROWN, there is no need to compromise between your budget and your conscience.

I use lotion on my daughter especially during the winter months.  The Organically Grown Baby Lotion goes on smooth and leaves her skin feeling silky; not greasy.  The scent is not too strong but does leave you with a soft fragrance that's safe for you and baby!

You can keep up with Organically Grown on Facebook and twitter.

Guest Post: Is that a Stranger?

It is a terrifying thought but it is a reality we must all face. We live in a world where dangerous people seek out young, unsuspecting children. The stereotype that a dangerous person consists of someone who wears a hat and dark glasses and hangs out in parks no longer applies. I have taught my children not to talk to strangers and never to take candy from someone they don’t know. A recent experience I had involving my children has made me even more aware of this fact and was a valuable learning tool for me as well as my children.

I was having a bit of car trouble and stopped into an unfamiliar repair shop. The staff was friendly and as we sat in the lobby an elderly man came in to have his car serviced as well. Upon entering the lobby, he offered my children bubble gum from his pocket. They immediately took it and my response was simply to tell him thank you. What began after this was what I considered very inappropriate talk and actions by this man. Without going into details, his behavior towards my son made every hair on my body stand up. My motherly instinct told me that this was a very dangerous individual. I immediately distracted my children and quickly left the store.

My children didn’t realize anything was wrong and as I pondered the situation that took place, I realized that I have been teaching my children not to accept anything from strangers, yet I allowed it to happen right in front of me! We had a long discussion about who is a stranger and that I made a mistake in allowing them to take gum from someone I didn’t know. I think it is a difficult balance to make your children aware of the dangers around them without leaving them scared and paranoid about all people that come into their lives. As parents, we have the responsibility to teach our children these stranger rules and then follow them ourselves. It is a hard balance and one that will never be easy, but we will wade through these waters together.

Review: Having a child with special dietary needs can sometimes be tricky when it comes to snack time.  Finding gluten free products that are quick to grab and go is very important.  Of course the number one priority in a snack is something she will eat.  My daughter (and myself) love fruit so when I learned about Crunchy N Yummy and that it was a gluten free product I knew we had to give it a try.  Since strawberries are my daughter's favorite fruit I decided to start with them.
She was really excited to see what the bag had inside.  I was able to sneak a few bites but she pretty much ate the whole bag on her own.  My favorite flavor was the banana.  I also have had the chance to try the mango and enjoyed it as well.  The fruit has a crisp sweet taste for a great healthy snack.

The bags are the perfect size for snacking.  There is enough for you to share or one person can easily take care of the bag themselves!  Some other things I really like about this product is the lifespan is much longer than that of regular fruit.  You don't have to refrigerate it, wash it or cut it, just eat!  Crunchy N Yummy fruit would also be great on cereal...I'm thinking strawberries on Rice Krispies.  One thing I would like to see is some mixed fruit bags.  This would provide more great products from Crunchy N Yummy.

Buy it: You can purchase Crunchy N Yummy online or at a retailer near you.

Cover-Me Strap Review

Product Description: Turn any blanket into a nursing cover with the versatile Cover-Me® Strap. This fully adjustable strap ensures your privacy while nursing when you clip it to a blanket.  Moms swear by this no-brainer because it fills so many other roles, too: Nursing cover, Sunshade, Toddler bib and Lovey Leash.  The stylish grosgrain ribbon is lightweight and portable, easy to take with you wherever you go.  The Cover-Me creates cover in so many ways!

Review: I am notorious for forgetting bibs when we are out to eat.  My daughter is notorious for being a messy eater.  Cover-Me Strap to the rescue!  I was excited to see that this product is not just for use with a nursing baby.  You can clip it to a blanket for sun shade or use it with a napkin for a bib.
I keep forgetting to snap a picture when we're out eating and using the Cover-Me strap and that's the only time my daughter sits still so I have a stand in model for this review.
This strap works great with napkins, paper towels and hand towels for a bib.  It's easy to store in a purse or diaper bag while out and about.  You may even want to leave when in your car so you will never be without.  The clips hold that towel tightly so they should withstand your little ones pulls and tugs to get the "bib" off.  I have been very pleased with my Cover-Me strap.  It's a great baby gift that they can use for years.  It also makes a really neat stocking stuffer since babies and moms are sometimes hard to shop for!  With an online price of $12 the cover-me strap is a great value as nursing cover and bibs add up to a lot more than $12.  At that price you can afford to pick up a few.  The Cover-Me Strap also come in a variety of colors, boys, girls and neutral colors/patterns.

Buy it: You can purchase a Cover-Me Strap online.

Larry Learns to Listen: When Larry's new Space Squadron game finally arrives, he's so anxious to play that he forgets to read the directions.  When his friends do their best to tell him, Larry refuses to listen!  What happens?  His games goes 'KERPOW!'  That's when Larry learns a valuable lesson in listening as his friends come to the rescue.  Kids will discover, right along with Larry, that God gave friends and family to help us though each day-- so when we listen we don't miss what others have to say!

Also includes two classic shows:  "Pistachio - The Little Boy Who Woodn't" and "Josh and the Big Wall"

Bob Lends a Helping Hand: When Joe's mom breaks her big left toe, Bob the Tomato decides to help.  Larry and Joe offer their 'superhero' help, too, but that's not exactly what Bob has in mind.  Kids will discover right along with Larry and Joe that everyone can be a superhero if you lend a helping hand!

Includes two classic shows: "Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue" and "Lyle the Kindly Viking"

Review: I have been watching Veggie Tales DVDs since before I had children.  They always have valuable lessons that everyone can use.  The characters make learning fun and interesting.  With my son being in preschool this year many of these lessons have come in handy as he navigates being "on his own" for the first time.

Larry Learns to Listen sounds so much like my son that I'm hoping it rubs off on him...even if we have to watch it a few times.  Veggie Tales has a great product line available to help you teach your children (and others) valuable life lessons. As always, our family is a fan of the latest Veggie Tales videos.  Yours can be too.

Buy it: You can purchase Larry Learns to Listen and Bob Lends a Helping Hand at the Veggie Tales store or a retailer near you.

Win it: 1 Coupon Clippin' Mommy reader will win both Larry Learns to Listen and Bob Lends a Helping Hand.

Mandatory Entry: Tell me which Veggie Tales character is the favorite in your house.
Please make sure if your email address is not visible in your blogger profile you leave one in your initial entry!
