Review: Our family has a set grocery and eating out budget each month but we usually go over in one of them...the eating out category.  After a long day with the kids the last thing I want to think about is making dinner (sometimes this means multiple meals).  I have tried menu planning and freezer cooking but I lose my motivation pretty quickly.  The thing that stood out to me when I was reading The “What’s for Dinner” Solution was the encouragement to read it with a friend.  For me this accountability and support is just what I need to get me out of the fast food funk and back into making meals my family and waistline can enjoy.

In one of the chapters Kathi talks about cleaning out your pantry.  This is something I have been wanting to do since we moved in months ago.  I have been working on labeling and getting rid of things we don't need.  I also liked that the Freezer cooking chapter is filled with recipes ready to be frozen!  While The “What’s for Dinner” Solution contains lots of recipes it really is so much more.  The information provided in the pages may motivate you to prepare meals that your whole family will love and it won't stress you out!

Review: I love pens!  I was more than excited to receive a set of UGLee Pens in pink.  I have been using them to write just about everything, grocery lists, day planner events and much more.  These pens are very comfortable to use and I love the way they write.  The ink flows freely onto the paper and writes very smoothly.  I have been using the same pen since I received them and the ink is still working great.

My son has been having some trouble writing in school and I think this is just the right pen for him to work with.  The gripped makes it easy for everyone to hold and it also encourages you to place your fingers in the correct position.  I'm not a huge fan of the price on the UGLee pens but I have found that quality pens add up no matter where you purchase them.  I do like that UGLee offers refills so you aren't continuously purchasing new sets of pens.

Review: I am always looking for ways to entertain my kids that doesn't involve the television.  Items that encourage their creativity and imagination are high on my list.  When the box arrived I was a little nervous I wouldn't be able to put the pirate ship together but the step by step instructions were very clear.

 

The pieces interlock to create a strong hold and keep the ship standing upright.  I think my favorite part of the ship is that the well actually spins!  Two swords are also included so your children can fend off the bad guys (or each other).  My son and I got the pirate ship put together in about 20 minutes and then we was ready to add his personal touch.

The kit comes with four colored markers and I will add that they are machine washable.  My son being four didn't color in any particular design but he had a good time.  In fact I wasn't sure there was going to be any white area left for my daughter to color when she woke up from her nap!

Both my children enjoyed playing with the pirate ship.  It is something they could play in together and use their imaginations to dream up big adventures.  The ship is designed well for light play.  It is rather large so it's good for a play area, day care or birthday party.  If you're looking for something to pass the time during the cold winter months you can check out the entire selection at Box Creations.  If you are thinking about purchasing one of these for Christmas you will probably want to set aside some room to have it already put together for the kids.  The Princess Carriage Playhouse looks like a really cute one!

Review: I first noticed Peeled Snacks while I was visiting a Starbucks (now available in Starbucks throughout the US and Canada).  The thing that jumped out at me was the gluten free labeling.  My daughter really likes fruit but it's not always convenient to eat on the go.  The fact that these snacks are organic is also great, knowing that you're feeding your child something healthy gives you a great feeling.

We received a variety of the peeled snacks.  I loved the bright colored packages and so did my daughter.  The favorites in our house are Banan-a-peel and Apple-2-the-core.  It took my daughter a few bites to get used to the texture but once she did she was hooked.  I liked the peeled snacks because I didn't have to eat the whole bag in one sitting; I wasn't afraid it would go bad.  I actually mixed a few of them together and ate a handful when I felt like snacking.  This gives a different and fun flavor to every bite.  The paradise found mix Peeled Snacks offers (mix of organic mango, pineapple & banana) sounds like it would be yummy.

Guest Post: Indian Corn Craft

Making Indian corn is such an easy, fun craft for preschoolers and reinforces fine motor skills. Your little one will love to make this craft and display it on the refrigerator all through the fall season and Thanksgiving holiday. Grandparents, aunts and uncles can admire this awesome craft your child has made.

Materials

• card stock paper or craft foam (white or yellow)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Tissue paper (red, yellow, orange, purple)
• magnet strip

Preparation

• Cut paper or foam into the shape of a piece of corn
• Cut tissue paper into 1 inch squares
• Glue magnet strip to back of corn

Instructions

1. Crinkle the tissue squares into loose balls
2. Glue the tissue onto the corn in a pattern or randomly until the corn is completely covered
3. Allow to dry

Enjoy the beautiful Indian corn masterpiece your preschooler has created! Your child can make Indian corn garland or even make Indian corn to give to family members that visit.

Review: When I first learned about the Sili Squeeze my first thought was "this is perfect for my daughter."  The two things she loves to eat most are applesauce and yogurt.  She does pretty good with a spoon but inevitably she ends up wearing some of it.  Since we are constantly on the go I try to always have prepackaged applesauce and yogurt on hand.  If you've ever stocked up on these items then you know that it's more expensive to buy this way.  Sili Squeeze to the rescue!

I love that this product is dishwasher safe.  I washed it prior to using it and have washed it a few times since then with no problems.  I also rinsed it out when using it multiple times in one day and it rinsed clean in no time.  My daughter knew exactly what to do with the Sili Squeeze; the soft material is easy for little hands to squeeze.  There was a little bit left when she handed it over for a refill but I was able to squeeze the remainder out for her.  This is a great product because it can grow with your child and be used for many years.

One thing I hope to see in the future is more color options.  The red is great because it works for both boys and girls but I'd love to have two different colors with one for each kid!  You can keep up with the sili company on facebook and twitter for more great information.

Kroger Gift Card Promotion & $25 Kroger Card Giveaway!

From Nov. 20-Dec. 11, Kroger will offer quadruple fuel rewards points on most gift cards sold at its in-store kiosk. The rewards points can be redeemed for discounts of up to $0.10 on fuel at Shell stations and $1 at Kroger fuel centers.  The more points a customer accrues, the greater the rewards. For example, for every purchase of $50 in gift cards from Kroger’s Gift Card Mall, customers will receive 200 fuel points. Those 200 points can be redeemed for $0.10 off per gallon at two different fill-ups at the customer’s local Shell station, or $0.20 off per gallon at their local Kroger fuel center.

“We encourage customers to stop by Kroger and purchase gift cards to use like cash, in order to save on fuel. We think it’s an easy and convenient way to kick off holiday shopping before heading out to retailers,” notes Kathy Kelly, president of Kroger Personal Finance.

Choose from retailers such as Macy’s, JCPenney, Sears, Starbucks, iTunes, Lowes, Gap and Old Navy, Chili’s and Best Buy, among many others. Some exclusions do apply, and the rewards offer may vary by market, so customers are encouraged to visit their local store for more information.

“The holiday gift card deal is just another way we offer meaningful savings to customers when they need it most,” Kelly says.
