If this treat selection doesn't work, nothing will. With a great variety of snacks I'm ready to tackle the training of teaching an old dog new tricks. Like I said in my earlier dog treat post I'm trying to get my 8 1/2 year old dog to go outside, use the bathroom and come back all on her own without a leash. For the most part this is because she wants to go outside all the time and everytime I go outside with her the kids spill out onto the porch.
The first thing I did was to break up the Pup Peroni and Milo's Kitchen jerky treats. The Milk-Bone® treats are already the perfect size for training. I want the treats to be small for a few reasons; number one reason is the package goes further. The second reason I like to use small treats for training is because you end up using a lot of them before they start doing whatever you are hoping for.
I started the training off by offering her the treat and talking it up when she goes outside. She knows exactly what a treat is and where we keep them so it usually works out well with her coming right back in. Sometimes she gets to wandering and I have to actually show her the treats, evening breaking some apart and letting her have a little while she's still outside. The great thing is she loves the treats so with continued work I think she just might have the whole thing figured out.
With the great selection of dog treats available at Wal-mart and the affordable pricing these treats aren't just for training. Don't forget when you're checking out the treats, some of the Milk-Bone® treat boxes will have a coupon on them!

Breaking the treats up is a great idea! I just mentioned in my post that the smaller bags just seem to go so fast.
Agreed Melissa! Breaking them up is the best way ;-)
